World Bank Treasury Summer Internship 2027: Paid Opportunity for College Students in Finance and Development

The World Bank Treasury Summer Internship 2027 offers college students a paid 10-week opportunity to gain hands-on experience in finance, international development, financial markets, and investment.

World Bank Treasury Is Opening Applications for Its 2027 Summer Internship

The World Bank Treasury is inviting eligible college students to apply for its 2027 Summer Internship, a competitive paid programme designed for students interested in finance, economics, financial markets, investment, and international development.

The internship provides participants with an opportunity to work at the intersection of finance, innovation, and global development. Rather than simply observing professionals, interns will contribute to projects within Treasury teams while developing practical skills that can support their transition into financial careers.

The 2027 programme will run for 10 weeks from June 1 to August 9, 2027, with interns working full-time in Washington, DC.

A Career-Focused Internship Experience

The World Bank Treasury describes the programme as a junior professional training opportunity designed to help exceptional college students develop skills for careers in the financial industry.

Participants will be exposed to the work of one of the world’s leading international development institutions while gaining experience across different areas of Treasury operations.

The programme is particularly suited to students who are considering careers on the trading floor of major banks, investment firms, private equity organizations, asset management institutions, or related financial functions.

Interns will be expected to contribute to the World Bank’s development mandate through their work while learning how financial markets and investment activities can support development objectives.

Three Treasury Rotations

One of the defining features of the internship is its rotation structure.

The programme begins with a customized onboarding week from June 1 to June 4, 2027. Following onboarding, interns will rotate through three different Treasury teams, spending approximately three weeks with each team.

The rotations are scheduled as follows:

  • Rotation 1: June 7–25
  • Rotation 2: June 28–July 16
  • Rotation 3: July 19–August 6
  • Capstone Presentation: August 9

Each rotation will give interns exposure to a different area of Treasury work. At the end of each rotation, participants will present their work to the respective team.

The programme will conclude with a capstone project presented to Treasury management, giving interns an opportunity to demonstrate what they learned during the summer.

Mentorship and Professional Development

The internship goes beyond day-to-day assignments. Throughout the programme, interns will participate in weekly discussions with the programme director and attend technical and career-focused sessions led by Treasury officers, managers, and directors.

Interns will also have access to the wider Treasury community, which consists of nearly 500 professionals. The programme provides opportunities to interact with senior leaders, including the Vice President and Treasurer.

Each intern will also be paired with a mentor and coordinator during rotations. This structure is intended to provide guidance, professional support, and exposure to different career paths within Treasury.

Opportunities Across Treasury Teams

The World Bank Treasury operates across a broad range of financial functions, allowing interns to experience different aspects of international finance.

The programme may place interns within areas including Capital Markets, Asset Management, Treasury Client Solutions and Structuring, Partnership and Advisory, Treasury Operations, as well as other Treasury functions.

Potential hiring teams associated with future Junior Analyst opportunities include Capital Markets teams working in debt origination, investor relations and sustainable finance, Treasury Asset Management, Asset Liability and Balance Sheet Management, Financial Products, Partnerships and Engagements, Advisory and Knowledge, and Financial Technology.

The World Bank notes that hiring teams and requirements may change.

Paid Internship in Washington, DC

The internship is a paid, short-term temporary position.

Interns are expected to work 400 hours during the 10-week programme. Compensation is listed at $22.70 net per hour for non-U.S. citizens and $27.70 gross per hour for U.S. citizens.

The internship is in person and full-time in Washington, DC. Interns are expected to work at least four days per week in the office, although HR policies may change.

Each intern will receive a World Bank laptop for the duration of the programme. The World Bank also states that it sponsors the appropriate visa for an incoming intern who requires authorization to work in the United States.

Who Can Apply?

The internship is specifically designed for students in the later stages of their undergraduate education.

Applicants must be enrolled in the second-to-last year of an equivalent four-year college degree programme and demonstrate an interest in finance, business, economics, or a related field.

Eligible candidates must be preparing to graduate with the equivalent of a four-year degree between December 2027 and September 2028.

Applicants must also be in good academic standing and available to work full-time for the entire internship period.

Students must not have another concurrent employment contract or internship during the programme.

Application Requirements

Applicants are expected to submit a complete application through the designated World Bank Group recruitment system.

The required documents include:

  • A one-page PDF cover letter
  • A one-page PDF resume

Applicants may also submit an optional half-page personal statement describing their background and explaining how their experiences could contribute to the Treasury workplace.

The World Bank Treasury encourages applicants to use its suggested cover letter and resume templates, although their use is not mandatory.

Potential Pathway to a Junior Analyst Role

The internship can also provide a potential pathway toward a longer-term Treasury career.

Following successful completion of the programme, the World Bank Treasury may extend opportunities to selected interns to apply for Junior Analyst positions. These positions are subject to a competitive selection process.

For the 2028 Junior Analyst intake, candidates are expected to graduate with the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree between December 2027 and September 2028.

Junior Analyst positions are initially offered for one year and may be renewable for one additional year, allowing a maximum two-year term.

This pathway makes the summer internship particularly valuable for students who want to build a career in international financial markets and development finance.

A Global Development Institution

The World Bank Group is a global partnership focused on ending extreme poverty, promoting shared prosperity, and supporting sustainable development.

Its Treasury has operated in international financial markets for more than eight decades and plays a major role in borrowing, investment, financial risk management, asset management, and the development of financial products that support the institution’s work.

For students interested in understanding how global financial markets connect with international development, the Treasury Summer Internship offers a practical introduction to that environment.

An Opportunity to Build a Global Finance Career

The World Bank Treasury Summer Internship 2027 offers more than a conventional summer placement. Through team rotations, mentorship, technical sessions, presentations, and a capstone project, participants can gain practical exposure to financial markets and international development.

For eligible college students preparing for careers in finance, economics, investment, asset management, or related fields, the programme provides an opportunity to learn directly from professionals working within a globally recognized institution.

Applications are being accepted through the World Bank Group’s recruitment platform, and interested students should carefully review the eligibility requirements and submit all required documents before the application deadline.
