Giving Green is Hiring a Director of Growth: Remote Climate Philanthropy Leadership Opportunity
Giving Green is hiring a remote Director of Growth to lead fundraising, marketing and communications while helping scale high-impact climate philanthropy.
Giving Green Director of Growth Opportunity
Giving Green has opened an opportunity for an experienced growth and fundraising professional to join its team as Director of Growth, a senior leadership position responsible for driving the organisation’s development, marketing and communications strategy.
The position is full-time and fully remote, with candidates based in the United States preferred because most of Giving Green’s donors and events are located there. The organisation is seeking an individual who can combine strategic leadership with practical execution to help expand its influence and direct more funding towards effective climate solutions.
The role offers an opportunity for an experienced professional to work at the intersection of climate action, philanthropy, fundraising, communications and nonprofit growth.
About Giving Green
Giving Green is a climate-focused research organisation that identifies and promotes highly effective opportunities for climate giving. Its work is designed to help individuals, foundations, businesses and other funders direct resources towards organisations capable of delivering significant climate impact.
Since its launch in 2019, Giving Green has helped move more than $63.5 million towards highly effective climate initiatives. This includes nearly $40 million distributed directly through the Giving Green Fund since 2022.
The organisation’s research and recommendations have also received coverage from major media outlets, including The Washington Post, Vox, The Atlantic and Time.
One of its flagship initiatives is its Top Climate Nonprofits research, which identifies organisations with strong potential to drive systemic change. Giving Green also conducts research into corporate climate strategies, climate and ESG investing and climate philanthropy.
With growing interest in effective climate giving, the organisation is now looking to develop a more proactive growth strategy.
Role of the Director of Growth
The Director of Growth will oversee Giving Green’s fundraising, marketing and communications activities under a unified strategic vision.
A major component of the position will involve major-donor fundraising. The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Director to identify, cultivate and steward high-net-worth donors, foundations and corporate partners.
The role will also involve building a scalable growth function capable of increasing awareness of Giving Green, attracting new supporters and strengthening relationships with existing donors.
Rather than focusing exclusively on one area, the Director of Growth will connect fundraising, communications and marketing so that each function supports the organisation’s wider mission.
The position could involve developing long-term fundraising strategies one day, reviewing donor communications the next and supporting media preparation or public communications shortly afterwards.
Key Responsibilities
Growth Strategy and Leadership
The Director of Growth will be responsible for developing and evolving the organisation’s overall growth strategy across development, marketing and communications.
Key responsibilities include setting goals and key performance indicators, reporting progress to leadership and the board, managing and mentoring the growth team, and overseeing the growth budget.
The successful candidate will also be expected to improve systems and processes as Giving Green continues to expand.
Development and Fundraising
Fundraising will represent a significant part of the position.
The Director will develop strategies for individual donors, foundations and corporate partners while proactively identifying new funding opportunities.
Responsibilities include:
- Building and managing a major-donor pipeline.
- Cultivating and soliciting new donors and institutional funders.
- Managing relationships from initial outreach through renewal.
- Representing Giving Green at climate and philanthropy events.
- Preparing fundraising materials, proposals, impact updates and annual reports.
- Improving donor-record management and CRM workflows.
- Tracking fundraising performance and donor engagement.
The organisation is particularly interested in candidates who can establish long-term philanthropic relationships and diversify its funding base.
Marketing and Communications
The Director of Growth will also oversee Giving Green’s communications strategy across owned, earned and paid media.
This includes supervising digital marketing support covering newsletters, content planning, website optimisation and campaign performance.
The successful candidate will ensure that Giving Green’s technical research is transformed into accessible content for donors, journalists, partners and the broader public.
The role may also involve identifying opportunities for rapid-response communications around developments in climate policy, climate science and philanthropy.
As a senior representative of the organisation, the Director should be capable of explaining complex climate and philanthropic concepts in clear language.

Required Qualifications
Giving Green is seeking candidates with at least seven years of professional experience in areas such as business development, nonprofit development, fundraising, marketing or communications.
Applicants should demonstrate experience cultivating and securing major gifts or partnerships with donors, foundations or corporate organisations.
Other important requirements include:
- Experience building and managing a donor pipeline.
- Previous people-management experience.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to explain complex subjects to general audiences.
- Experience developing strategies and managing budgets.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- An entrepreneurial approach to developing systems and processes.
- Strong interest in addressing climate change.
- Values aligned with Giving Green’s mission.
Desired Experience
Additional experience that could strengthen an application includes an existing network of major donors or climate-focused philanthropic prospects.
Giving Green is also interested in candidates with experience in public relations, earned media, climate or environmental issues, nonprofit development, digital marketing and CRM platforms such as Salesforce, HubSpot, Keela or Airtable-based systems.
Candidates do not need to meet every preferred qualification. The organisation is looking for people with significant strengths in relevant areas and the willingness to develop further.
Remote Working Environment
Giving Green operates as a fully remote organisation with team members spread across 11 time zones.
The organisation emphasises autonomy, transparency and work-life balance. Team members may occasionally need to participate in meetings outside standard working hours because of the distributed nature of the team, although advance notice is provided.
The team stays connected through all-hands meetings, reading groups and Slack, while also meeting in person twice each year for three-day retreats.
Giving Green describes its culture as having a nonprofit-startup mentality, with employees encouraged to take initiative, experiment with new tools and improve systems rather than simply maintain existing processes.
Salary and Benefits
For a full-time, five-day-per-week, U.S.-based employee, Giving Green is targeting compensation of $135,000 to $185,000, depending on location and experience.
The organisation also offers competitive nonprofit-sector benefits for U.S.-based employees, including fully covered health, dental and vision insurance, a 4% unconditional 401(k) contribution, more than 20 days of paid time off plus public holidays, productivity and professional development stipends, and other benefits.
Employees may choose to work either four or five days per week, with salary and certain benefits adjusted according to the working arrangement.
Eligibility and Application
The position is open to candidates who have legal authorisation to work in the country where they will be based. Although the role is remote, Giving Green prefers U.S.-based applicants because most of its donors and events are in the United States.
The position is full-time and exempt, with candidates able to work either four or five days per week.
The recruitment process consists of a 15-minute screening interview, a one-hour interview, a two-hour work task and a 1.5-hour final interview.
Candidates interested in the opportunity should apply through the official application process rather than sending application materials by email. Questions about the position can be directed to [email protected], but the organisation states that applications sent by email will not be considered.
An Opportunity to Help Scale Climate Giving
The Giving Green Director of Growth position offers an opportunity for an experienced fundraising, development, marketing or communications professional to take on a senior role within a growing climate-focused organisation.
The successful candidate will not simply manage an existing function. They will help build a growth strategy capable of expanding Giving Green’s donor network, increasing public awareness of its research and ultimately directing more capital towards effective climate solutions.
For professionals with substantial fundraising experience, strong strategic skills and a commitment to climate action, the position represents an opportunity to combine philanthropy, communications and climate impact in a fully remote working environment.
