Call for Applications: Fully Remote Funded SEAP Fellowship Programme 2026

Nationality for All (NFA) is recruiting two early-career human rights professionals for its fully remote 2026 SEAP Fellowship Programme focused on statelessness, nationality rights, and legal identity research in the Asia-Pacific region.

Introduction

Nationality for All (NFA) has officially announced applications for its inaugural 2026 SEAP Fellowship Programme, offering early-career human rights professionals in the Asia-Pacific region an opportunity to contribute to one of the regionโ€™s leading research initiatives on statelessness and nationality rights.

The three-month full-time remote fellowship forms part of NFAโ€™s ongoing work on the Statelessness Encyclopedia Asia Pacific (SEAP), a major regional knowledge platform documenting nationality laws, legal identity systems, discrimination, and populations affected by statelessness across Asia and the Pacific.

The fellowship presents an opportunity for emerging researchers and human rights advocates to gain practical experience in factchecking, legal research, citation management, and human rights documentation while working alongside an international advocacy organisation.

Applications close on 25 May 2026.

About Nationality for All (NFA)

Nationality for All (NFA) is an international organisation focused on addressing statelessness and advancing nationality rights throughout the Asia-Pacific region. The organisation emerged from the work of the Statelessness Network Asia Pacific (SNAP), which spent several years building a regional civil society movement focused on ending statelessness and promoting inclusive nationality systems.

NFA works across several key areas, including:

  • Advocacy and policy influence
  • Human rights research
  • Coalition and movement building
  • Regional partnerships and accompaniment
  • Knowledge production and documentation

Through research initiatives such as SEAP, the organisation seeks to improve understanding of nationality rights issues while supporting evidence-based advocacy and policy reform.

What Is the SEAP Fellowship Programme?

The SEAP Fellowship Programme is a structured remote fellowship designed for early-career professionals interested in human rights, legal identity systems, citizenship rights, and regional research.

The programme supports the updating and verification of the Second Edition of the Statelessness Encyclopedia Asia Pacific (SEAP), particularly focusing on:

  • Southeast Asia
  • East Asia
  • Central Asia

Two fellows will be selected, with each fellow assigned responsibility for specific sub-regions.

The fellowship aims to strengthen regional research capacity while helping fellows develop practical professional skills in:

  • Factchecking
  • Desk research
  • Citation verification
  • Human rights documentation
  • Research coordination

Understanding the Importance of SEAP

The Statelessness Encyclopedia Asia Pacific (SEAP) is regarded as one of the most comprehensive regional knowledge resources focusing on statelessness and nationality rights.

The initiative documents:

  • Nationality laws
  • Legal identity systems
  • Human rights exclusion
  • Discrimination linked to citizenship status
  • Populations affected by statelessness

SEAP serves as an important resource for researchers, advocacy groups, policymakers, civil society organisations, and international institutions working to address legal identity and nationality-related challenges in the region.

The second edition of the encyclopedia aims to strengthen and expand existing information while ensuring accuracy and updated regional coverage.

Fellowship Duration and Structure

The fellowship will run for three months on a full-time remote basis.

Fellowship Timeline

  • Start Date: 15 June 2026
  • End Date: 11 September 2026
  • Duration: 3 months

Because the fellowship is fully remote, fellows will work independently from home while remaining in regular communication with the NFA research team.

Periodic in-person meetings may also be organised where necessary.

Fellowship Stipend

Each selected fellow will receive a monthly stipend ranging from:

AUD 200 โ€“ AUD 400 per month

The stipend amount will depend on the fellowโ€™s location.

Although the fellowship is research-focused, the stipend provides financial support while fellows participate full-time in programme activities.

Key Responsibilities of SEAP Fellows

The fellowship is heavily research-oriented and focuses on supporting the NFA research team with updates to SEAPโ€™s second edition.

Responsibilities include:

1. Factchecking and Additional Research

Fellows will:

These tasks are intended to strengthen the accuracy, credibility, and reliability of the SEAP knowledge platform.

Month 1: Orientation and Factchecking

During the first month, fellows will receive:

Fellows will also begin factchecking and conducting desk research for assigned sub-regions.

Month 3: Citation Verification and Final Review

Applicants should demonstrate:
