Successful applicants will work alongside experienced professionals while completing the nationally recognised Telecommunication Network Operations qualification linked to SAQA ID 59057 at NQF Level 4.

Learnership Duration and Location

Training and work activities will initially be based in East London in the Eastern Cape. However, after approximately four to six months, learners may be required to travel to various telecommunications sites across the province as part of their practical experience.

Applicants are therefore expected to already reside in East London or nearby areas within the Eastern Cape region.

The company also highlighted that learners should be comfortable working outdoors, including at elevated heights and in varying weather conditions.

What Learners Will Be Doing

The programme involves a wide range of technical responsibilities that expose learners to real telecommunications operations. Participants will assist with tower construction, equipment installations, repairs, upgrades, and network maintenance.

Some of the key duties include:

  • Installing antennas, microwave dishes, cables, and communication equipment
  • Working on telecommunication towers and elevated structures
  • Assisting with fiber optic, coaxial, and power cable installations
  • Performing maintenance, testing, and network audits
  • Supporting emergency repairs and service restoration
  • Following strict health and safety procedures
  • Assisting team leaders with operational duties
  • Learning to operate lifting equipment such as winches and pulleys

Learners will also be required to complete Ericsson’s specialised tower training programme successfully.

Because telecommunications infrastructure often operates around the clock, learners may occasionally be required to work shifts, weekends, or outside normal business hours when necessary.

Who Should Apply?

The minimum requirements include:

  • Matric or National Senior Certificate, preferably with technical subjects
  • TVET qualification in IT, ICT, low voltage systems, telecommunications, or digital electronics
