Eligibility Criteria

The grants are open exclusively to Swazi citizens pursuing postgraduate studies.

For Master’s applicants, candidates must be enrolled, admitted, or intending to enroll at a recognized tertiary institution for the 2026 academic year. They should demonstrate strong academic potential and a clear interest in climate resilience research.

PhD applicants must meet similar enrollment criteria but are also expected to have a solid research background, including prior academic or professional experience in climate-related fields.

Across both levels, applicants must show:

  • Commitment to high-quality, impactful research
  • Alignment with national climate priorities
  • Methodological rigor and feasibility
  • Consideration of inclusivity, particularly for vulnerable groups such as women, youth, and persons with disabilities

Application Process

Applicants are required to submit a comprehensive package, including:

  • A completed application form
  • A detailed research proposal (maximum six pages)
  • Curriculum Vitae and academic transcripts
  • Proof of university enrollment or acceptance
  • A motivation letter (maximum two pages)
  • Two academic reference letters
  • A certified copy of their national ID

All applications must be submitted electronically by 15 May 2026. Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered, emphasizing the importance of careful preparation.

Evaluation and Selection

Applications will undergo a rigorous, merit-based evaluation process conducted by an independent panel of experts. The assessment criteria include academic merit, relevance to national priorities, methodological soundness, feasibility, inclusivity, and potential impact.

Candidates scoring between 80 and 100 points will be highly recommended for funding, while those with lower scores may be considered conditionally or not at all. Shortlisted applicants may also be invited for interviews or presentations.
