NASI ISPANI 2026: Gauteng Department Hiring School Sport Coordinators on 3-Year Contracts

The Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation is recruiting School Sport Coordinators under the NASI ISPANI programme. Youth aged 18–35 can apply before 24 April 2026.
The Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation has announced new employment opportunities under the NASI ISPANI initiative. The department is recruiting School Sport Coordinators across multiple corridors in Gauteng on three-year contracts. These roles aim to strengthen school sport participation while providing young people with meaningful employment and practical experience in sport development.
The programme forms part of a broader effort to promote mass participation in sport among learners and improve coordination of school-based sporting activities. Successful candidates will work closely with sport officials at district and corridor level to ensure that school sport programmes are effectively implemented.
Available Positions
Multiple School Sport Coordinator posts are available across various corridors. These positions fall under the Recreation Directorate and offer a monthly stipend of approximately R6 563.52. The contracts run for a period of three years, providing stable work experience for youth interested in sport and recreation.
The available positions include 13 posts at Head Office under reference SSC/2026/01 and 12 posts in the Central Corridor under reference SSC/2026/02. The East Corridor has eight posts under reference SSC/2026/03, while the North Corridor offers 10 posts under reference SSC/2026/04. Additional opportunities include four posts in the West Corridor under reference SSC/2026/05 and six posts in the South Corridor under reference SSC/2026/06.

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for these opportunities, applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 35 at the time of appointment. Candidates must reside in Gauteng, and preference will be given to those living within the ward where the work opportunity exists. If suitable candidates are not found within a ward, the search may be extended to neighbouring areas.
The programme is specifically targeted at young people with a strong interest in school sport and community development. Applicants should be willing to work within local communities and support sport participation initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates must possess a Grade 12 certificate as a minimum requirement. A tertiary qualification in Sports, Recreation Management, Recreation Administration, or Recreation Leadership will be advantageous. Applicants should also demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, planning ability, and communication competence.
Additional desirable skills include project management, negotiation, problem-solving, conflict management, and organizational skills. Computer literacy, data collection, and report writing skills are also important, as coordinators will be responsible for programme documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will support sport officials in promoting mass participation in sport among school learners. This includes encouraging schools to participate in cluster games and competitions. Coordinators will also provide administrative and logistical support within districts and corridors.
The role involves collecting programme data, maintaining records, and preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. Coordinators will assist in organizing district, regional, and provincial sporting events. They will also contribute to capacity-building initiatives and support programme implementation.
Application Requirements
