Apply for 24 graduate internships at PUTCO across Operations, Accounts, HR, Technical, and Procurement. Open to graduates under 35 in Soweto, Pretoria, and Linbro Park. Deadline 08 April 2026.

PUTCO, one of South Africaโ€™s leading public transport operators, has announced 24 graduate internship opportunities in collaboration with the Transport Education and Training Authority (TETA). This initiative is designed to equip young professionals with practical experience across multiple disciplines within the transport sector, fostering career growth and skills development for the next generation of industry leaders.

The internship program is open to graduates who have already completed a Degree, Diploma, or National Diploma in relevant fields. Eligible candidates are required to have a Grade 12 certificate, a completed qualification from a recognized institution (TVET College or University), be under 35 years of age, unemployed, and in good health. These criteria ensure that the program supports individuals who are ready to take the next step in their careers while contributing meaningfully to the transport industry.

Internship Disciplines

PUTCOโ€™s graduate internship program spans several key areas, providing opportunities for graduates with diverse academic backgrounds:

  • Operations/Traffic: Interns will gain hands-on experience in managing daily transport operations, monitoring route efficiency, and supporting scheduling and compliance initiatives.
  • Accounts: Candidates in this department will assist with financial reporting, budgeting, reconciliations, and other essential accounting processes.
  • Human Resources: Interns will learn about employee relations, recruitment, training, and HR administration, providing insight into the companyโ€™s workforce management practices.
  • Technical (Mechanical Engineering): Graduates in this area will participate in vehicle maintenance, fleet management, and technical problem-solving, applying engineering principles to real-world transport challenges.
  • Procurement/Stores: This stream offers experience in supply chain management, inventory control, vendor liaison, and procurement processes critical to the smooth operation of the business.

Locations

The internship positions are based across three strategic locations to expose interns to varied operational environments: Soweto, Pretoria, and Linbro Park. This geographic spread allows candidates to experience urban and peri-urban transport systems and gain a well-rounded understanding of PUTCOโ€™s operational footprint.

Internship Benefits

While the primary objective of this program is skills development, PUTCO ensures that interns receive basic support during their tenure. The internship offers a monthly stipend of R500 and 15 days of annual leave, providing a balance between professional exposure and personal well-being.

Participants will also benefit from mentoring and structured learning, enabling them to develop practical knowledge and industry-relevant skills that will strengthen their employability upon completion of the program. Graduates will have the opportunity to interact with experienced professionals in their respective departments, gaining insights into the challenges and innovations shaping South Africaโ€™s transport sector.
