The University of the Free State invites applications for a one-year internship in technology-enhanced teaching and learning. Gain hands-on experience in e-assessment, training, and academic support at UFS Bloemfontein.

Introduction

The University of the Free State (UFS) is offering a unique opportunity for recent graduates to join its Blended Learning Innovation Support and Services (BLISS) team through a one-year internship in technology-enhanced teaching and learning, with a particular focus on assessment. The position is based at the Bloemfontein Campus and is open to motivated individuals with a Bachelor’s or B-Tech degree (NQF Level 7) seeking hands-on experience in the evolving landscape of digital education.

The internship is structured to provide interns with practical exposure to the development and management of e-assessment activities, training material for objective assessments, and support for both students and academic staff using the UFS online assessment platforms. Interns will play a key role in scheduling e-assessments, assisting in data collection and analysis, and contributing to the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of training programs.

In line with the University’s commitment to excellence and innovation, this internship offers participants the chance to develop competencies in strategic thinking, business acumen, and collaborative leadership. Candidates are expected to demonstrate results-orientation, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively under supervision. Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) or assessment platforms is highly advantageous, as is prior experience as a Student Assistant, Tutor, or Teaching Assistant.

Applicants should note that this internship is specifically aimed at individuals who are not currently enrolled in another learnership or internship program and who have no prior formal work experience. Successful candidates will be required to sign a learnership agreement with UFS and commit to the full one-year term of the internship, starting 1 June 2026. The role offers a monthly stipend of R9 497.50.

To apply, candidates must submit a complete application online via the official UFS vacancy portal. The application package should include a detailed Curriculum Vitae, certified copies of qualifications (with SAQA accreditation for foreign qualifications), and a copy of a valid ID or passport. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The application deadline is 10 April 2026.

UFS is a designated employer committed to diversity, equity, and redress, actively encouraging applications from under-represented groups, including persons with disabilities. All personal information submitted as part of the application process is handled in compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), ensuring confidentiality and responsible processing of applicant data.

This internship represents a career-launching opportunity for ambitious graduates eager to contribute to digital learning innovation at one of South Africa’s leading universities. Through exposure to real-world e-assessment processes, student and staff support initiatives, and data-driven teaching strategies, interns will gain valuable skills and insights that will enhance their professional development and prepare them for future roles in educational technology, academic support, and learning management.

By joining UFS, interns become part of a forward-thinking academic community dedicated to inspiring excellence and transforming lives through quality, impact, and care.
