KZN Sharks Board Internship Programme 2026: Building Skills for the Next Generation

The KZN Sharks Board, a leading maritime authority and protector of South Africaโ€™s coastal waters, is proud to announce its 2026 Internship Programme. Designed as part of the Boardโ€™s ongoing skills development initiatives, this programme offers unemployed graduates the opportunity to gain practical experience in their respective fields while contributing to the organizationโ€™s mission of marine conservation and maritime safety.

With its headquarters at the Maritime Centre of Excellence in KwaZulu-Natal, the KZN Sharks Board has a long history of protecting both marine life and human communities along the South African coastline. The internship programme reflects the Boardโ€™s commitment to developing local talent and equipping young professionals with the skills required for meaningful careers in health and safety, marine research, and business development.

Who Can Apply

The programme targets unemployed graduates who have successfully completed a National Diploma (NQF 6) or Bachelorโ€™s Degree (NQF 7) from accredited institutions of higher learning. Applicants should hold qualifications relevant to one of the following areas:

  1. Corporate Services
    • Health & Safety Intern โ€“ Reference: HS0326
      • Qualification: National Diploma or Degree in Health and Safety (NQF 6 or 7)
    • Facilities Management: Motor Mechanic โ€“ Reference: FM0326
      • Qualification: Occupational Certificate in Automotive Motor Mechanic or Degree in Mechanical Engineering (NQF 4โ€“7)
  2. Research
    • Research Intern โ€“ Reference: RES0326
      • Qualification: Bachelorโ€™s Degree or National Diploma in Marine Biology, Environmental Science, or Zoology (NQF 6 or 7)
  3. Business Development
    • Business Development Intern โ€“ Reference: BDD0326
      • Qualification: National Diploma or Degree in Tourism & Marketing, Public Relations, or Communications Management (NQF 6 or 7)

A total of six internship positions are available, with allocations divided among Corporate Services, Research, and Business Development.

Programme Details

Selected candidates will participate in a 12-month structured internship, during which they will acquire hands-on experience and exposure to real-world applications in their fields. The programme is designed to integrate academic knowledge with practical skills, ensuring that interns are well-prepared for future employment opportunities.

Each intern will receive a monthly stipend of R7,000, intended to support living expenses while gaining valuable workplace experience.

The closing date for applications is 23 March 2026. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further evaluation. Candidates who do not hear from the Board within two months of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful.
