The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is offering a 24-month Graduate Internship Programme across multiple disciplines in the Eastern Cape. Opportunities include Grants Administration, ICT, Finance, and Communications & Marketing. Stipend: R7,860.50 per month. Apply by 13 March 2026.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has opened its doors to young, ambitious graduates with the launch of its Graduate Internship Programme 2025/2026. This initiative is part of SASSAโ€™s ongoing commitment to developing future leaders while ensuring efficient delivery of social services to South Africans. With offices nationwide, SASSA provides a dynamic, state-of-the-art work environment designed to foster learning, professional growth, and meaningful contribution to public service.

The programme is open to South African citizens aged 18 to 35, with successful applicants offered a 24-month internship contract across various professional disciplines. Selected interns will receive an all-inclusive monthly stipend of R7,860.50.


Internship Disciplines and Locations

For the Eastern Cape, SASSA has advertised positions in four key functional areas:

  1. Grants Administration โ€“ Graduates with a degree, B-Tech, or National Diploma (NQF Level 6/7) in Public Management, Public Administration, or Social Sciences. The role focuses on the administration and oversight of social grants, ensuring the right social support reaches the right beneficiaries efficiently. Reference: SAS 15/2026.
  2. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) โ€“ Graduates in Information Technology will support SASSAโ€™s digital infrastructure, systems management, and technology-enabled service delivery. Reference: SAS 16/2026.
  3. Finance โ€“ Graduates with qualifications in Financial Accounting will assist in maintaining financial records, monitoring budgets, and ensuring compliance with public sector financial regulations. Reference: SAS 17/2026.
  4. Communications and Marketing โ€“ Candidates with qualifications in Public Relations, Communications, Media Studies, or Multimedia Journalism will support SASSAโ€™s internal and external communication strategies. Reference: SAS 18/2026.

Preference will be given to applicants who enhance equity and diversity targets, aligning with the agencyโ€™s commitment to transformation in the public sector.


Who Should Apply?

The programme targets unemployed graduates who meet the following criteria:

  • South African citizenship
  • Aged 18โ€“35 years
  • Possess relevant tertiary qualifications (Degree, B-Tech, or National Diploma, NQF Level 6 or 7)
  • Have not previously participated in the SASSA internship programme

Applicants with disabilities are encouraged to apply and must provide medical proof.
