KwaZulu-Natal Tourism Graduate Development Programme 2026

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs invites unemployed graduates and students to apply for the 2026 Tourism Graduate Development Programme, offering workplace experience, in-service training, and a monthly stipend across tourism, hospitality, and ecotourism sectors.


The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) has announced its Tourism Graduate Development Programme (TGDP) 2026, a strategic initiative aimed at nurturing skills and creating employment pathways for unemployed graduates and students in the province. This programme aligns with national objectives as articulated in the National Skills Development Strategy III (NSDS III), the National Growth Plan (NGP), the Provincial Growth and Development Strategy (PGDS), and Vision 2030 of the National Development Plan (NDP).

The TGDP is a fully structured, 24-month programme that provides participants with invaluable work experience, work-integrated learning, and enhanced opportunities for future employment in the tourism, hospitality, and ecotourism sectors. Importantly, successful participants will receive a monthly stipend, enabling them to focus on building their professional skills while contributing to the growth of tourism in KwaZulu-Natal.

Who Can Apply?

Applications are open to graduates and students who have attained:

  • A three-year Degree, National Diploma, or N6 qualification from a recognised University, College, TVET College, or University of Technology.
  • Relevant qualifications in Tourism Management, Travel & Tourism, Hospitality Management, Ecotourism Management, or equivalent tourism and hospitality fields.

The programme is ideal for individuals who are motivated, eager to learn, and committed to developing practical skills in tourism-related areas while gaining exposure to professional working environments.

Available Placements and Host Employers

The 2026 TGDP will provide 62 graduate placements and 20 in-service training opportunities across multiple municipalities, tourism offices, and organisations throughout KwaZulu-Natal. Participants will be placed with renowned host employers, including:

  • Amajuba District Municipality โ€“ Emadlangeni & Newcastle Municipalities
  • Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife โ€“ Chelmsford, Lotheni, Oribi Gorge, Hilltop, Mpila Camp
  • eThekwini Metro โ€“ Msinsi Holdings, Nagle Dam, Ushaka Marine World
  • Harry Gwala District Municipality โ€“ Harry Gwala Development Agency, Greater Kokstad Municipality
  • iLembe District Municipality โ€“ KwaDukuza Municipality, Mandeni Municipality
  • King Cetshwayo District Municipality โ€“ uMhlathuze Municipality, Nkandla Municipality
  • Ugu District Municipality โ€“ South Coast Tourism & Investment Enterprise, uMuziwabantu Municipality
  • uMgungundlovu District Municipality โ€“ Impendle, Richmond, uMshwathi, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife โ€“ Wagendrift & Midmar
  • uMkhanyakude District Municipality โ€“ Umhlosinga Development Agency, Big 5 Hlabisa, Mtubatuba Municipality
  • uMzinyathi District Municipality โ€“ Endumeni, Nquthu, uMvoti Municipalities
  • uThukela District Municipality โ€“ Alfred Duma, uThukela Economic Development Agency, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife โ€“ Didima & Giants Castle
  • Zululand District Municipality โ€“ eDumbe, Nongoma, Ulundi, uPhongolo, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife โ€“ Ntshondwe

Participants must be willing to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required by host employers. It is also recommended that applicants apply to host employers within their residential areas.

Application Process

Interested applicants must complete the Tourism Graduate Development Programme Application Form (not Z83) and submit it alongside a Curriculum Vitae, Matric certificate, relevant qualifications, academic transcripts, Identity document, and proof of residence issued by a local municipality or traditional authority. Foreign qualifications must include a SAQA evaluation certificate.

Applications can be submitted directly to host employer offices, EDTEA district offices, or via email to [email protected]. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews, which will typically take place near their residential areas.

Applicants should note that only certified documents are to be submitted on the interview day and that correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates. The closing date for applications is 25 March 2026.
