The Role of the Environmental and Social Compliance Specialist
The Environmental and Social Compliance Specialist will play a crucial role in monitoring and evaluating how IFC and MIGA implement corrective actions following compliance investigations conducted by the CAO.
Working under the direction of the Compliance Manager, the specialist will help ensure that projects adhere to environmental and social policies while promoting accountability and transparency in development finance.

Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will oversee several important functions within the compliance monitoring framework.
Monitoring Oversight:
The specialist will lead the implementation of CAO’s enhanced compliance monitoring framework. This includes assisting compliance teams in planning and executing monitoring strategies for projects that require oversight.
Case Monitoring:
They will develop and implement monitoring plans that track the progress of corrective actions taken by IFC and MIGA following compliance investigations.
Reporting and Documentation:
The role involves preparing detailed monitoring reports that summarize findings, analyze progress, and provide recommendations. These reports are submitted to senior leadership and the Board for review.
Planning and Coordination:
The specialist will coordinate monitoring cycles, organize field visits, and manage reporting timelines to ensure timely assessments of ongoing cases.
Stakeholder Engagement:
The role requires extensive engagement with stakeholders such as community representatives, project complainants, internal IFC and MIGA staff, and board members.
Quality Assurance and Learning:
Ensuring the accuracy and reliability of monitoring processes is another key responsibility. The specialist will also document lessons learned to improve environmental and social compliance frameworks.
Training and Coaching:
Additionally, the specialist will mentor compliance team members and consultants, promoting a collaborative work environment focused on continuous learning and high performance.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
To qualify for this role, applicants must possess strong analytical skills and experience in monitoring, evaluation, auditing, or project management.
Minimum qualifications include:
- A Master’s degree in fields such as economics, monitoring and evaluation, auditing, project management, or related disciplines.
- At least four years of professional experience in monitoring and evaluation, auditing, project management, or similar areas.
- Experience with environmental policy or compliance analysis will be considered an advantage.
Candidates should also demonstrate:
- Strong analytical and reporting skills
