Remote Jobs at the African Climate Foundation: Graphic Designer and Senior Communications Officer Opportunities

The African Climate Foundation is hiring a remote Graphic Designer and Senior Communications Officer to support climate storytelling and communications across Africa. Apply before April 2026 deadlines.
The African Climate Foundation (ACF) has announced two exciting remote career opportunities within its communications team. These roles—a Graphic Designer and a Senior Communications Officer (Francophone)—offer professionals the chance to contribute to climate action and sustainable development across Africa while working in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
As the first African-led climate change re-granting organisation on the continent, the African Climate Foundation supports initiatives that intersect climate change and development. Through grant-making, research, technical assistance, and advocacy, the foundation aims to drive inclusive socio-economic transformation and climate resilience. These new positions reflect the organisation’s growing communications needs and commitment to amplifying African-led climate solutions.
Graphic Designer (Remote)
The Graphic Designer role is a junior-to-mid-level position designed for creative professionals passionate about visual storytelling and climate communication. Reporting to the Communications Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening ACF’s brand identity and producing compelling digital content.
The designer will be responsible for creating visually engaging materials aligned with the organisation’s corporate identity. This includes reports, social media graphics, event materials, and multimedia content. Ensuring consistency across internal and external communications is a central aspect of the role, helping to build trust and recognition in the foundation’s brand.
Collaboration is also an important component of the position. The Graphic Designer will work closely with communications colleagues and other departments to understand design needs and deliver creative solutions. Participation in brainstorming sessions and development of innovative concepts will form part of the day-to-day responsibilities.
The role also involves producing digital content such as infographics, motion graphics, and short-form videos. The successful candidate will explore emerging design formats to enhance engagement and reach diverse audiences across Africa. Managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring quality control, and meeting deadlines are essential expectations.
Requirements for the Graphic Designer Role
Applicants should hold a degree or diploma in graphic or multimedia design, along with three to five years of professional experience. Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite—including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign—is required, while knowledge of Canva and video editing tools like Adobe Premiere Pro or After Effects is advantageous.
Candidates with familiarity in web design tools such as WordPress, strong organisational skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively will be well suited for this role. Experience working in multicultural environments and an understanding of climate or development issues are considered added advantages.
The Graphic Designer position is a 12-month contract, renewable based on mutual agreement. While the organisation’s operational hub is located in Cape Town, remote work will be considered for candidates based in South Africa and Kenya. The closing date for applications is 13 April 2026, and the position is available immediately.
Senior Communications Officer (Francophone) – Remote
The second opportunity is for a Senior Communications Officer with strong bilingual skills in French and English. This role is intended for experienced communications professionals who can help elevate the foundation’s visibility and strengthen engagement with Francophone media across Africa.
The Senior Communications Officer will support the rollout of ACF’s communications strategy and produce content that showcases the organisation’s impact. This includes creating compelling stories, managing media relations, and supporting communication efforts with partners and grantees.
Media engagement is a critical component of this role. The successful candidate will cultivate relationships with Francophone and regional media outlets, draft press releases, handle media inquiries, and support press briefings. The role also involves working closely with partners on events and advocacy initiatives where media engagement is essential.
Content development responsibilities include creating case studies, impact stories, newsletters, and digital content aligned with strategic communications objectives. The officer will also provide communications support to partners and contribute to outreach efforts across the continent.
Requirements for the Senior Communications Officer Role
Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field. A minimum of seven to ten years of experience in communications—preferably within the nonprofit, development, or climate sectors—is required.
Applicants must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills in both French and English, along with strong networks within Francophone media. Experience using digital communication tools such as Canva and Mailchimp is also desirable.
The role requires strong stakeholder engagement skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage multiple projects. Candidates must be based in Africa, with preference given to applicants in Senegal and West Africa. Occasional travel and in-person engagements with partners will be required.
This is also a 12-month renewable contract, with remote work available across the African continent. Applications for this role close on 9 April 2026, and the start date is immediate.
Why These Opportunities Matter
Both roles offer professionals the opportunity to contribute to impactful climate action initiatives across Africa. By joining the African Climate Foundation, successful candidates will support efforts to amplify African-led climate solutions, promote sustainable development, and strengthen public engagement around climate issues.
These positions also provide valuable experience working within a pan-African organisation that collaborates with governments, civil society, and development partners. The remote nature of the roles allows candidates to work flexibly while contributing to meaningful continental initiatives.
Application Process
Interested candidates should submit their applications through the official recruitment portals, including their CV and supporting documents such as portfolios where required. Applicants for the Graphic Designer role must include a design portfolio demonstrating their work.
The African Climate Foundation aims to build a diverse and equitable team representing the continent. Candidates who do not receive feedback by 31 May 2026 should consider their applications unsuccessful.
