Gert Sibande TVET College and AgriSETA Launch 12-Month Agriculture Internship Programme for NCV Graduates

Gert Sibande TVET College, in partnership with AgriSETA, invites NCV Primary Agriculture graduates to apply for a 12-month internship programme in the Gert Sibande Region. Applications close on 13 January 2026.

Gert Sibande TVET College, in collaboration with the Agriculture Sector Education and Training Authority (AgriSETA), has opened applications for a structured 12-month internship programme aimed at strengthening practical skills development in South Africa’s agricultural sector. The programme targets NCV Services Studies graduates who have completed NCV Primary Agriculture at NQF Levels 2 to 4 and are seeking meaningful workplace exposure within commercial farming environments.

This initiative reflects an ongoing commitment by both Gert Sibande TVET College and AgriSETA to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world agricultural practice. By placing graduates within active commercial farming organisations across the Gert Sibande Region, the programme seeks to enhance employability while contributing to skills development in a sector that remains critical to food security and rural economic growth.

Overview of the Internship Programme

The internship programme offers 12 placement opportunities and runs for a period of 12 months, providing participants with sustained exposure to agricultural operations. Interns will be placed within various commercial farming organisations operating in the Gert Sibande Region, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge in practical, work-based settings.

The programme is specifically designed for graduates who have completed NCV Primary Agriculture at NQF Levels 2, 3, or 4, ensuring that participants possess foundational agricultural knowledge before entering the workplace. Through this internship, graduates will gain hands-on experience in agricultural production environments, workplace discipline, and sector-specific practices aligned with industry standards.

Purpose and Strategic Importance

Agriculture remains one of South Africa’s most vital economic sectors, particularly in rural regions such as Gert Sibande. However, many young graduates struggle to transition from college to employment due to limited practical experience. This internship programme addresses that challenge directly by offering structured workplace exposure supported by an established training authority.

AgriSETA’s involvement ensures that the programme aligns with national skills development priorities, while Gert Sibande TVET College provides oversight and graduate support through its career guidance and job placement offices. Together, the partners aim to produce work-ready agricultural practitioners who can contribute meaningfully to the sector upon completion of the internship.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the internship programme, applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements. These criteria ensure that opportunities are directed to suitable candidates who can benefit fully from the programme and comply with placement conditions.

Applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens.
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 35 years.
  • Have completed NCV Primary Agriculture at NQF Levels 2–4.
  • Be graduates of Gert Sibande TVET College (no external applicants will be considered).
  • Be unemployed and not currently studying, intending to study, or participating in any other training, learnership, or skills programme during the internship period.
  • Be proficient in English, as communication within commercial farming environments is essential.
  • Be willing and able to work in climate-changing and outdoor agricultural environments.
  • Have no criminal record.

These requirements are intended to ensure commitment, availability, and readiness for the demands of agricultural workplace exposure.

Internship Location and Work Environment

Successful candidates will be placed within commercial farming organisations located in the Gert Sibande Region. This exposure provides interns with the opportunity to experience diverse agricultural operations, including crop production, farm management activities, and compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.

Working in real farming environments also requires adaptability, resilience, and a willingness to engage in physically demanding tasks under varying climatic conditions. As such, the programme is well suited to candidates who are motivated to build long-term careers in agriculture and related fields.

Application Requirements

Applicants are required to submit a complete application package to be considered. Incomplete or non-compliant applications may not be accepted.

The application must include:

  • A recent, updated CV.
  • Originally certified copies of all NCV certificates (NQF Levels 2–4), or relevant academic records.
  • An originally certified copy of a South African ID document, not older than six months.

Certification must be done by a recognized authority, and applicants are advised to ensure that all documents are clear and legible.

How to Apply

There are two application submission methods available to candidates:

Hand Delivery:
Applications may be hand-delivered to any Gert Sibande TVET College campus, specifically to the SSS Office/Centre or the Office of Career Guidance and Job Placement.

Email Submission:
Alternatively, applications may be submitted via email to the Perdekop Campus at:

Applicants are encouraged to ensure that their applications are submitted well before the closing date to avoid last-minute delays.

Closing Date and Final Reminder

The closing date for applications is 13 January 2026. Late applications are unlikely to be considered.

Graduates who meet the eligibility requirements and are eager to gain practical agricultural experience are strongly encouraged to apply. This internship programme represents a valuable opportunity to transition from college into the world of work while contributing to the development of South Africa’s agricultural sector.

By participating in this programme, successful candidates will not only enhance their skills and employability but also take an important step toward building sustainable careers in agriculture.
