The East London Industrial Development Zone (ELIDZ) invites unemployed South African graduates aged 18–35 to apply for its 24-month Internship Programme, offering practical workplace exposure across engineering, science, management, IT, and logistics fields.


East London IDZ Internship Opportunity: Building Skills for the Future

The East London Industrial Development Zone (ELIDZ) has opened applications for its Internship Programme, a structured initiative designed to equip unemployed South African graduates with practical workplace experience. The programme runs for a period of up to 24 months, subject to the signing of a formal internship agreement after appointment.

As a state-owned entity, ELIDZ plays a critical role in driving industrial development, investment promotion, and economic growth in the Eastern Cape. Through this internship programme, ELIDZ aims to develop a pool of skilled young professionals who can contribute meaningfully to the region’s industrial and socio-economic transformation.


Purpose of the Internship Programme

The ELIDZ Internship Programme is intended to:

  • Support skills development among young graduates
  • Bridge the gap between academic learning and practical work experience
  • Enhance employability by exposing interns to real-world operational environments
  • Promote inclusive participation, with special consideration for persons with disabilities

Interns will be placed in various functional areas where they will receive mentorship, hands-on training, and exposure aligned to their qualifications.

    Qualification: M+3 Qualification in Safety Management

  • Electrical Engineering (Maintenance & Facilities)
    Qualification: M+3 Qualification in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current)
    Number of Interns: 1
  • Records Management
    Qualification: M+3 Qualification in Records Management / Archives
    Number of Interns: 3
  • Records Management Administration
    Qualification: M+3 Qualification in Office Management and Technology / Office Administration
    Number of Interns: 1
  • Project Portfolio Management
    Qualification: M+3 Qualification in Information Technology / Software Development / Civil or Mechanical Engineering
    Number of Interns: 1
  • Project Industrial Development
    Qualification: M+3 Qualification in Building / Civil Engineering
    Number of Interns: 1
  • Supply Chain Management
    Qualification: M+3 Qualification in Supply Chain Management / Logistics
    Number of Interns: 2
  • Science and Technology Park – Laboratory
    Qualification: M+3 Qualification in Microbiology / Chemistry / Biotechnology
    Number of Interns: 3
  • Science and Technology Park – Design Centre
    Qualification: M+3 Qualification in Mechanical / Mechatronics / Electrical Engineering

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for the ELIDZ Internship Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Relevant post-school qualification (M+3) completed
  • South African citizen
  • Aged between 18 and 35 years
  • Unemployed at the time of application
  • Must not have participated in any other internship programme related to the field of study
  • Must not have relevant work experience in the field applied for
  • Strong academic performance will be an advantage
  • Persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply, in line with ELIDZ’s commitment to inclusivity

Applicants are required to submit a complete application clearly stating the area of exposure being applied for. Applications must include:

  • A detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Certified copies of academic qualifications
  • A certified academic record (mandatory)
