For 2026, the SHRA is offering internships in the Project Management / Quantity Surveying field at Buhlebezwe Property NPC, located at Hospital Street Social Housing, Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal.
Key Internship Position: Project Management / Quantity Surveyor Intern
Two positions are available for the Project Management / Quantity Surveyor (Site Verification) internship. Interns will report directly to the unit manager and will be fully involved in the monitoring, measurement, and verification of construction projects.
Key Learning Areas & Responsibilities:
- Site Measurement & Verification
- Conduct regular site inspections to measure and verify completed construction work.
- Ensure all contractor claims reflect physically executed work.
- Compare actual site progress against approved drawings, specifications, and Bills of Quantities (BoQ).
- Maintain accurate site measurement records, including photographs and progress logs.
- Payment Application & Invoice Verification
- Review contractor payment applications and invoices against work completed on site.
- Verify quantities, rates, and claimed values for contractual compliance.
- Identify overclaims or discrepancies and report unexecuted work included in invoices.
- Cost Control & Monitoring
- Track project costs against approved budgets and cash flow.
- Monitor variations, dayworks, and additional works, ensuring proper documentation.
- Site Coordination & Reporting
- Attend site meetings and provide updates on progress, quantities, and financial status.
- Liaise with contractors, consultants, and site management on measurement and valuation matters.
- Prepare comprehensive site verification reports for submission to the Project Manager.
- Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all claimed works meet contractual conditions, quality standards, and statutory requirements.
- Support audits and inspections by providing clear evidence that payments are based on actual work completed.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 certificate
- NQF7 Degree in Quantity Surveying or BSc Construction
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong understanding of construction measurement and valuation principles
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, BoQs, and specifications
- High attention to detail and strong observation skills on site
- Knowledge of standard construction contracts
- Excellent communication and reporting skills
- Proficiency in measurement and reporting tools such as Excel, measurement sheets, and site reports
Stipend: R11,175.00 per month

Duration: 24 months
