Greentown Go Build 2026: Accelerating CO₂ Mineralization Technologies for the Future of Construction

Greentown Go Build 2026, led by Greentown Labs with Amazon and the Global CO₂ Initiative, supports startups worldwide commercializing CO₂ mineralization technologies for low-carbon construction materials.

Tackling One of the Biggest Climate Challenges in the Built Environment

The global construction sector sits at the center of the climate challenge, with concrete alone responsible for approximately 8% of global CO₂ emissions. Addressing this impact requires not only incremental improvements, but transformative technologies capable of permanently locking carbon into durable materials at scale.

Recognizing this opportunity, Greentown Labs, in collaboration with Amazon and the Global CO₂ Initiative, has launched Greentown Go Build 2026—a focused accelerator programme designed to validate, test, and commercialize CO₂ mineralization and carbonation technologies for construction materials. The programme invites climate and materials startups from around the world to help reshape the future of the built environment.

Who Go Build 2026 Is Designed For

Greentown Go Build 2026 is open to startups globally that are developing technologies at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4 or above. Eligible companies must be working specifically on CO₂ mineralization or carbonation solutions for construction materials, with a strong emphasis on concrete aggregates and adjacent material applications.

Participating teams are expected to demonstrate not only technical readiness, but also leadership commitment. Startups must be able to engage at the founder or executive level throughout the programme, including both virtual and in-person events. This requirement reflects the programme’s collaborative and partnership-driven nature, where strategic decision-making and rapid iteration are essential.

Why This Programme Matters

Go Build 2026 focuses on one of the most impactful and underutilized climate levers: durable carbon utilization in construction materials. By transforming anthropogenic CO₂ into long-lasting, economically viable building products, these technologies offer a pathway to emissions reduction that extends far beyond avoided emissions.

Led by Greentown Labs—one of the world’s largest climatetech incubators—and supported by Amazon’s scale and the Global CO₂ Initiative’s scientific expertise, the programme is uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between laboratory innovation and real-world deployment.

Rather than operating as a general accelerator, Go Build 2026 is highly targeted. Its goal is to help startups:

  • Validate performance and durability claims
  • Demonstrate economic competitiveness
  • Identify realistic implementation pathways
  • Build partnerships that accelerate commercialization

What Selected Startups Receive

Startups selected for Go Build 2026 gain access to a comprehensive, collaboration-focused support platform designed to advance both technology and market readiness.

Key benefits include:

  • A structured accelerator programme enabling testing and collaboration with Amazon
  • A needs-based stipend to reduce financial barriers to participation
  • Mentorship and partnership-focused programming led by Greentown’s climatetech experts
  • Exclusive access to Greentown Labs’ and Amazon’s global networks
  • Desk space at Greentown Labs locations in Somerville, Massachusetts, and/or Houston, Texas
  • Invitations to Greentown community events, workshops, and networking sessions
  • Dedicated support for performance data collection, economic analysis, and commercialization pathways

Together, these resources are designed to help startups move from promising technology to deployable, investment-ready solutions.

Technology Scope and Focus Areas

The programme is specifically tailored to durable materials that permanently incorporate CO₂, ensuring long-term climate benefits. Eligible technologies include materials that use anthropogenic CO₂ as a feedstock, additive, or curing input.

Examples of in-scope technologies include:

  • Concrete aggregates produced using waste CO₂ (the primary focus area)
  • Precast concrete products and fillers
  • Supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs)
  • Fiber cement boards, drywall, and insulation materials
  • Processes such as accelerated mineralization, direct use of flue gas CO₂, and advanced particle processing

To ensure genuine climate impact, the programme excludes solutions focused on fuels, avoided-emissions-only products, non-durable carbon uses, or materials that cannot demonstrate a service life exceeding 100 years.

Programme Structure and Timeline

Greentown Go Build 2026 runs from April to October 2026, combining virtual programming with in-person workshops and a final showcase. The structure is designed to encourage sustained collaboration, technical validation, and partnership development.

The tentative timeline includes:

  • Programme kickoff: April 1, 2026
  • Workshop 1 (in person): May 20–21, 2026
  • Workshop 2 (virtual): June 24–25, 2026
  • Workshop 3 (in person): August 12–13, 2026
  • Final Showcase: October 1, 2026

These milestones allow startups to refine their technologies, test assumptions, and present progress to stakeholders and potential partners.

Application Process and Deadline

Applications for Greentown Go Build 2026 are now open. Startups must submit their applications by:

🗓 January 9, 2026 (23:59:59 EST)

Detailed programme information, eligibility criteria, and application instructions are available through Greentown Labs’ official channels. Given the specialized nature of the programme and the involvement of major industry partners, early and thoughtful applications are strongly encouraged.

A Strategic Opportunity for Climate and Materials Innovators

Greentown Go Build 2026 represents a rare opportunity for startups operating at the intersection of climate science, materials engineering, and the construction industry. By focusing on permanent carbon utilization in one of the world’s most widely used materials, the programme aims to unlock scalable solutions with global impact.

For founders and executive teams ready to test their technologies, build industry partnerships, and contribute to a lower-carbon built environment, Go Build 2026 offers a powerful platform to accelerate progress and turn innovation into lasting climate impact.
