About the Global Energy Transition Initiative (GETI)

The Global Energy Transition Initiative (GETI) is a groundbreaking partnership between Bloomberg Philanthropies and ClimateWorks Foundation. Launched in 2017, the initiative’s mission is to accelerate the transition from coal to clean energy in line with the global 1.5°C climate pathway.

GETI operates across Asia, Africa, and South America, supporting emerging and developing economies to overcome the economic, political, and social challenges of coal dependency.

Since 2022, the initiative has expanded its reach, now focusing not only on raising climate ambition but also on implementing real-world clean energy transitions. Its strategic priorities include:

  • Shaping and executing country-specific coal phase-out plans.
  • Mobilizing clean energy investments.
  • Ending the development of new coal projects globally.
