Purpose of the Fellowship
The Graduate Governance Fellowship is created for an emerging professional eager to explore the operational and governance frameworks within NGOs. Fellows will support Amnesty’s Board of Directors, Executive Director and staff, contributing to organisational policies, legal research, governance compliance, and human rights strategy.
Through structured mentorship and exposure to partner organisations, the fellow gains an in-depth understanding of:

Key Responsibilities
The appointed fellow will take on a wide range of responsibilities, including:
Governance & Organisational Support
- Supporting the Board of Directors and, when required, the National Secretariat
- Drafting governance documents and reviewing internal policies
- Preparing minutes, reports and records from meetings
Research & Policy Development
- Conducting legal and governance research
- Contributing to national and global policy discussions within Amnesty
- Assisting with ongoing advocacy and campaign initiatives
Administrative & Strategic Duties
- Managing documentation and workflow
- Supporting project delivery and organisational processes
This combination of tasks ensures the fellow gains comprehensive exposure to NGO governance and human rights processes.
Essential Qualifications & Skills
Applicants should hold:
- An LL.B. or an equivalent law qualification
- Fluency in two or more South African languages
- Excellent written communication skills
- Analytical and research competence
- Ability to handle pressure, deadlines and large volumes of information
- Strong presentation and interpersonal abilities
