The Role of the Climate Change Expert
This position is pivotal in strengthening Libya’s capacity to adapt to climate change impacts on its vital food and water systems. The expert will work under the supervision of the FAO Representative in Libya, with direct oversight from the Land and Water Technical Officer and Project Coordinators. Their primary focus will be on providing technical expertise, supporting project implementation, and fostering institutional coordination for climate-resilient development.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Support and Monitoring: Offer expert guidance in implementing and tracking climate-related projects, ensuring activities align with strategic goals and deliver tangible results.
- Planning and Reporting: Assist in preparing detailed work plans, concept notes, and technical reports that document project progress and lessons learned.
- Review and Quality Assurance: Evaluate consultant reports and project documents to ensure compliance with terms of reference before approval.
- Knowledge Management: Develop tools and knowledge products by leveraging existing and emerging climate data to promote sustainability and informed decision-making.
- Capacity Building: Organize training workshops and stakeholder meetings to enhance institutional capacity and promote best practices in climate resilience.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Foster effective partnerships and maintain positive relationships with government agencies, NGOs, technical partners, and local communities.
- Additional Tasks: Perform any other related duties as assigned to support the successful delivery of climate adaptation initiatives.
Who Should Apply?
Qualified candidates should possess at least a master’s degree in climate science, environmental sciences, agricultural climatology, or related fields. A minimum of five years of relevant experience in climate change adaptation—particularly within agriculture, water resources, or food systems—is essential. Fluency in English and Arabic is required, and candidates must be Libyan nationals or residents with valid work permits.
