UNWTO is Hiring for a Project/Programme Manager (Multiple Locations)
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the United Nations agency dedicated to promoting responsible, sustainable, and accessible tourism worldwide, is seeking to expand its roster of qualified service contract holders. This initiative aims to identify talented professionals interested in supporting UNWTO’s vital projects and programmes, based at its duty station in Madrid, Spain.
Opportunities for Experienced Professionals
UNWTO is currently inviting applications for positions at various levels within its Project/Programme Management area, including:
- Senior Project Specialist
- Project Specialist
- Project Associate
These roles are part of a roster of service contract holders, with contracts lasting up to 24 months. The positions are instrumental in ensuring the effective delivery of projects, supporting operational management, and guaranteeing the transparent utilization of the organization’s resources.
Key Responsibilities and Functional Expectations
Candidates selected for these roles will work under the supervision of designated managers, contributing to various project management functions. The scope of responsibilities varies depending on the specific position and department, but generally includes tasks such as:
- Developing and innovating development programmes within specific sectors
- Designing project portfolios and fostering partnerships with national counterparts
- Coordinating sectoral activities with broader organizational programmes
- Assessing project proposals for relevance, coherence, and quality
- Organizing project execution to meet programme objectives, engaging relevant stakeholders, and maintaining high standards of delivery
- Overseeing support activities such as procurement, recruitment, and logistical operations
- Managing project budgets, monitoring expenditures, and preparing financial reports
- Organizing statistical and operational data to ensure transparent resource management
Candidate Profile and Qualifications
UNWTO seeks candidates with diverse academic backgrounds and professional experience. The requirements are tailored to different assignment types, ranging from three to five years of relevant experience, often complemented by advanced university degrees (Master’s or equivalent).
Ideal candidates will demonstrate:
- Fluency in English and, preferably, proficiency in additional UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish, or Russian)
- Strong computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office and Windows 10
- Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills
- Ability to work harmoniously in an international environment with tact and discretion
- Previous experience in international organizations or the United Nations system is highly desirable
Remuneration and Benefits
The remuneration for these contract positions ranges from EUR 1,400 to EUR 3,000 per month, depending on the role, experience, and skills. Successful candidates will be enrolled in UNWTO’s health insurance scheme (co-shared), and the organization will contribute 13% of their monthly salary to their pension scheme.
