Project Context

The agreement emphasizes countries’ voluntary commitments to reduce greenhouse gases, with Article 6 providing mechanisms for international cooperation through carbon markets.
UNIDO is actively establishing mechanisms to support developing countries in participating in carbon offset projects, building capacity around Article 6, and creating credible, transparent carbon solutions. This includes developing tools for assessing carbon credit eligibility, fostering partnerships with industry and governments, and positioning UNIDO as a leader within the UN system on climate and carbon market initiatives. These efforts aim to promote sustainable, low-carbon industrial development, ultimately contributing to international climate commitments and environmental sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
The Project Administrator will be responsible for:
- Supporting the planning, organization, and monitoring of technical cooperation projects related to climate and industrial decarbonization.
- Gathering and analyzing background information to understand the context of projects within developing countries.
- Drafting and reviewing project documents, including background reports, justifications, and progress updates.
- Coordinating with experts, consultants, and project partners to ensure smooth implementation.
- Monitoring project activities, identifying challenges, and recommending corrective actions.
- Assisting in the preparation of project revisions, budgets, and work plans.
- Supporting the organization of technical meetings, workshops, and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Contributing to knowledge-sharing through the development of reports, briefings, and other communication materials.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess:
- An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in engineering, sciences, economics, business administration, international relations, or a relevant field with a focus on carbon markets.
- At least three years of work experience in project administration, climate initiatives, or related areas.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with experience in evaluating needs and conditions in developing countries.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in additional UN languages is desirable.
- Ability to work collaboratively in diverse, multicultural teams and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
- Prior experience in evaluating or managing climate projects, carbon markets, or industrial decarbonization is highly desirable.
