Research and Data Specialist Wanted at the Danish Refugee Council (Apply Now)

In the bustling city of Bangkok, Thailand, the Mixed Migration Centre (MMC) stands as a vital hub for independent, high-quality research and analysis on one of the world’s most complex issues—mixed migration. Dedicated to advancing understanding, informing policy, and fostering protection for all people on the move, the MMC operates globally with regional hubs across Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America. Its work is grounded in human rights and evidence-based responses, making it a crucial resource for policymakers, practitioners, journalists, and humanitarian actors alike.
The Heart of the MMC: The 4Mi Initiative
Among MMC’s flagship projects is the 4Mi (Mixed Migration Monitoring Mechanism), which gathers crucial data through in-depth, structured interviews. This initiative sheds light on protection risks, living conditions, motivations, and vulnerabilities faced by migrants and refugees. The insights gained are instrumental in shaping effective humanitarian responses, informing policies, and filling critical gaps in knowledge about migration dynamics.
MMC in Asia & the Pacific
Currently, MMC’s operations extend into Asia through various data collection efforts in countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Pakistan, and Türkiye. The focus areas include understanding migration flows, protection risks, perceptions of irregular migration, migrant smuggling, and onward movement patterns. These regional insights are vital for developing tailored, evidence-based responses that respect human rights and address local realities.
The Opportunity: Research and Data Specialist
For those passionate about migration issues and data-driven solutions, the MMC offers an exciting role: Research and Data Specialist. Based in Bangkok, Thailand, this position provides a unique opportunity to lead and shape the regional implementation of the 4Mi project, contributing to a global effort to better understand and respond to mixed migration.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will oversee the operational and technical aspects of 4Mi in Asia and the Pacific, including:
- Managing day-to-day project operations and supervising the team, including the Information Management Specialist and 4Mi officers.

- Overseeing procurement processes for partners involved in data collection activities.
- Maintaining and improving the data collection platform and survey software to ensure efficiency and data integrity.
- Monitoring budgets, supporting donor reporting, and helping sustain funding through strategic development and fundraising efforts.
- Collaborating with the global 4Mi team to innovate methodologies and tools, ensuring data reliability and relevance.
- Analyzing collected data, interpreting findings, and producing visual, written, and presentation reports to inform policymakers and stakeholders.
- Representing MMC at conferences, meetings, and in policy discussions, advocating for evidence-based approaches to migration challenges.
