The Role in Focus: Community Outreach & Events Specialist

Based in vibrant Chicago, Illinois, the Community Outreach & Events Specialist plays a crucial role in advancing MedGlobal’s mission locally. Whether working full-time or part-time, this dedicated professional works in a hybrid environment—combining the energy of in-person engagement with the flexibility of remote work. Reporting directly to the Community Engagement & Partnerships Director, the specialist works alongside a team of two to build meaningful community relationships, organize impactful events, and elevate MedGlobal’s visibility in the Chicago area.

What Does the Job Entail?

This role is a dynamic blend of community engagement, event planning, and partnership development. The specialist’s primary focus is to organize and participate in outreach activities that educate the public about MedGlobal’s work and foster relationships with potential donors, sponsors, and community partners. From engaging with local organizations, educational institutions, and businesses, to representing MedGlobal at community meetings and networking events, the specialist ensures the organization remains visible and connected within the local fabric.

A core component of the position involves planning and managing fundraising events—such as galas, community fairs, and donor appreciation gatherings. The specialist collaborates closely with the development team to craft compelling sponsorship packages, support marketing efforts through social media and email campaigns, and ensure each event runs smoothly from concept to completion. Their responsibilities extend to creating detailed event plans, managing budgets, overseeing logistics, recruiting and training volunteers, and analyzing event outcomes to optimize future initiatives.

Who Are We Looking For?

MedGlobal seeks a passionate, organized individual with a background in nonprofit outreach, community engagement, or fundraising—ideally with at least five years of relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, or a related field is preferred. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to build rapport with diverse community groups.

The ideal candidate is a proactive team player with strong project management skills, proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with donor management software. They should possess a deep commitment to humanitarian principles and be particularly knowledgeable about faith-based giving initiatives, especially within Muslim communities, aligning with MedGlobal’s values and mission.

This position offers the chance to be part of a meaningful cause—working to improve global health and support displaced and underserved populations. It involves occasional evening and weekend commitments and may require travel within Illinois or to other states for events and meetings.
