Role Context and Responsibilities

The Project Assistant will operate under the supervision of senior staff—including the Senior Project Associate, Senior Programme Coordinator, and the Chief of Mission in London—and will provide essential support to the IOM team based in Belfast. The role involves a wide array of duties, from administrative coordination to community engagement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the implementation and monitoring of project activities in Belfast.
  • Compiling and presenting data and information related to project topics.
  • Monitoring project budgets, verifying fund availability, and updating financial records.
  • Coordinating administrative tasks, liaising with organizational units and external partners to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Drafting reports, correspondence, briefing notes, and presentation materials.
  • Organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Responding to inquiries and maintaining organized records.
  • Providing community-based support, including information dissemination, triage, and referrals for asylum seekers, often working with interpreters when necessary.
  • Traveling within the region as required to support project activities.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should have either:

  • A school diploma with four years of relevant experience, or
  • A bachelor’s degree in fields such as Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related disciplines, along with two years of relevant professional experience.

Preferred backgrounds include experience liaising with government authorities, international agencies, NGOs, and working with vulnerable groups such as migrants, refugees, or victims of trafficking. Prior experience with international humanitarian organizations, especially in multicultural settings, is considered an asset.

Skills and Language Requirements

Ideal candidates will possess strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills, along with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in additional languages such as French or Spanish will be evaluated during the selection process.
