IMF is Hiring for an Administrative Coordinator

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Administrative or Senior Administrative Coordinator to join its General Macro and Fiscal (MF) Division within the Institute for Capacity Development (ICD). This full-time position is based in Washington, D.C., and offers a unique chance to contribute to global economic stability and development.

About the Division

The MF Division plays a pivotal role in designing, organizing, and delivering capacity development activities for government officials and institutions across various regions. These activities include training programs in macroeconomics and fiscal policy, technical assistance in areas like financial programming and debt management, and support for ICD resident advisors at regional centers. The division also manages internal training initiatives for IMF economists and online courses on relevant economic topics.

Role and Responsibilities

The Administrative Coordinator will work closely with a team of three other coordinators, providing essential administrative support that ensures the smooth operation of the division’s diverse activities. The role involves a broad spectrum of responsibilities, including:

  • Supporting Capacity Development Initiatives: Formatting memoranda, briefing materials, official correspondence, and training resources; coordinating translation, proofreading, and archival of documents; maintaining data; and generating reports within various CD systems.
  • Event and Meeting Coordination: Organizing meetings, seminars, and official events related to capacity development projects.
  • Liaison and Communication: Engaging with mission chiefs, regional training center coordinators, IMF departments, and member country officials to facilitate training courses, technical assistance projects, and related activities.
  • Mission Planning and Staffing: Assisting in planning, staffing, and coordinating with senior economists and other stakeholders.
  • Supporting Division Leadership: Managing the agendas of Division Chiefs, helping streamline workflows, and supporting their key responsibilities.
  • Additional Contributions: Participating in working groups, social activities, and special events to foster a collaborative environment.

Leadership Opportunities

Candidates with experience and interest in leadership may have the chance to oversee the work of other coordinators, under the supervision of the Division Chief, contributing to the division’s strategic objectives.

Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of six years of relevant experience, including at least two years in a leadership role, and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Strong interpersonal skills, organizational ability, and a proactive attitude are essential. Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is required, along with familiarity with IMF-specific systems such as HRPROD/FINPROD, Nexus, SharePoint, and CDMAP. A keen interest in learning additional ICD systems like Moodle and CDR is also desirable.

Excellent command of English — both written and spoken — is necessary, as is the willingness to work occasional overtime on short notice. The position is filled through a three-year term appointment, in accordance with the IMF’s employment policies.
