Reporting Lines and Technical Focus

The Programme Assistant will operate under the direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative (Programme) and the FAO Representative in Cabo Verde. The role involves supporting a variety of agriculture and blue economy projects—ranging from development to implementation oversight—and ensuring their alignment with FAO’s strategic objectives. Special emphasis will be placed on integrating gender equality, youth engagement, and partnerships with the private sector into project activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and drafting concept notes for agriculture-related projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Support the effective implementation of ongoing projects by monitoring activities, coordinating logistics, and maintaining documentation.
  • Conduct field visits to project sites to assess progress, identify challenges, and recommend improvements.
  • Prepare monitoring reports, summarizing achievements, challenges, and recommendations for project enhancements.
  • Act as the primary liaison for consultants, ensuring deliverables meet timelines and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, including government agencies, partners, and community actors, to facilitate smooth project execution.
  • Contribute to the development of project proposals, including background research, budgeting, and drafting concepts.
  • Serve as a focal point for key thematic areas such as gender, youth, human rights, and private sector engagement.
  • Perform other related tasks as required, supporting the broader organizational objectives.

Candidate Profile

FAO seeks candidates who meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Education: Advanced university degree in Agriculture or a relevant field.
  • Experience: At least five years of professional experience in project management, preferably in agriculture, rural development, or related sectors.
  • Languages: Working knowledge (C1 level) of English, French, or Spanish; knowledge of Portuguese and Creole languages is highly advantageous.
  • Nationality: Must be a citizen of Cabo Verde.
