The Embassy of Canada to Portugal is excited to announce an opening for the position of Program Coordinator within its Trade Program. This full-time, indeterminate role offers a unique opportunity for a dedicated professional to play a vital part in advancing Canada’s trade interests and fostering economic relationships in Portugal through the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service (TCS).
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Senior Trade Commissioner, the Program Coordinator is a key member of the TCS team based in Lisbon. The successful candidate will work closely with Trade Commissioners (TCs) to support sector initiatives, coordinate trade promotion activities, and effectively engage with local and international stakeholders. This role involves managing administrative functions, supporting event planning, developing communications, and contributing to the overall success of Canada’s trade objectives in Portugal.
Main Responsibilities
The Program Coordinator’s duties are diverse and impactful, including:
- Managing Communications:
Serving as the primary contact for all non-sector-specific inquiries through the trade general inbox, ensuring timely and professional responses. - Supporting Canadian Companies:
Providing direct assistance to Canadian businesses in targeted sectors, collaborating with TCs and senior officials to facilitate market access and opportunities. - Research & Content Development:
Conducting sector and client research, drafting tailored communication materials such as emails, reports, and market profiles to support priority sectors. - Event & Travel Logistics:
Supporting the organization of trade missions, business visits, conferences, and trade shows—coordinating travel, managing registrations, preparing agendas, and drafting correspondence. - Financial & Budget Management:
Overseeing the team’s budget spreadsheet, processing financial transactions, and providing regular updates to the Senior Trade Commissioner. - Data & Content Management:
Maintaining contact databases and tracking tools, updating Excel spreadsheets, and supporting operational efficiency. - Social Media & Outreach:
Developing engaging and strategic content for social media platforms, especially LinkedIn, to promote trade activities and Canada’s economic interests.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The position is open to local staff (permanent, temporary, or contract) working at the Embassy of Canada in Lisbon, Portugal, who meet all essential qualifications. Essential Qualifications include:
- A recognized university bachelor’s degree.
- Advanced proficiency in Portuguese (spoken, comprehension, written).
- Advanced proficiency in English (spoken, comprehension, written).
- At least two years of professional experience supporting trade promotion, client service, event management, or research within the last seven years.
Rated requirements focus on knowledge of international trade, the mandate of the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service, office procedures, and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
Asset Qualifications (Preferred)
Candidates with additional qualifications will have a competitive edge, including:
- Intermediate knowledge of French (spoken and written).
- Experience facilitating high-level visits or delegations.
- A degree specializing in commerce or economics.
- Knowledge of Portugal’s local business environment and trade opportunities.
- Experience advising clients on international business development.
- Familiarity with social media content creation tools like Canva or Photoshop.
- Experience managing budgets and financial principles.
- Proven ability to develop and manage engaging social media content, particularly on LinkedIn.
Working Conditions & Employment Details
- Hours: 37.5 hours per week, with flexibility to work overtime, evenings, or weekends if necessary.
- Location: The primary work site is at the Embassy of Canada in Lisbon.
- Travel: Occasional travel may be required.
- Salary: Approximately EUR 26,808 annually, plus benefits, aligned with the Terms and Conditions of Employment for LES staff in Portugal.
- Contract: Indeterminate, full-time.
