Main Purpose of the Role

The Partnerships and Convening Consultant will work within the Partnerships team to support UNICEF Innocenti’s strategic partnership objectives. The key focus will be to facilitate and deliver high-impact convening moments—events, meetings, and engagement opportunities—that strengthen existing partnerships and cultivate new collaborations. These efforts will also underpin fundraising initiatives and help position UNICEF Innocenti as a thought leader in research and foresight related to children’s rights.

Under the guidance of the Director’s Office and in close collaboration with the UNICEF Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division (PFP), the consultant will be instrumental in planning, executing, and follow-up for various partnership events and activities. This role aims to enhance visibility, engagement, and resource mobilization through strategic convenings.


How Can You Make a Difference?

You will lead the planning and execution of innovative, engaging, and high-standard events that foster partnerships, promote UNICEF Innocenti’s research and foresight work, and contribute to resource mobilization efforts. Your work will help forge meaningful collaborations with private sector entities, foundations, philanthropists, governments, and other stakeholders, ultimately supporting the rights and well-being of children worldwide.


Key Responsibilities

1. Event Management & Delivery

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive annual calendar of events and convenings aligned with UNICEF Innocenti’s strategic objectives.
  • Define clear objectives for each event, ensuring relevance and impact.
  • Manage multiple event timelines, tracking milestones, dependencies, and deliverables to ensure timely completion.
  • Oversee all logistical aspects for income-generating events, including venue, technology, materials, and participant engagement.
  • Lead the planning and execution of thought leadership events, such as report launches, partner days, family days, and foresight seminars, ensuring they provide valuable insights and networking opportunities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and PFP to develop and deliver the 2025 Leading Minds Conference, ensuring the inclusion of private sector participants and alignment with the upcoming UNICEF International Council Symposium.
  • Design bespoke experiences to foster donor engagement and stewardship, including personalized follow-up strategies and tailored engagement offers.
  • Ensure effective post-event follow-up, including debriefs, reporting, and continuous engagement strategies to nurture partnerships.

2. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with teams within UNICEF Innocenti, across UNICEF offices, and external partners to develop compelling content and themes for events.
  • Build and manage targeted invitation lists to maximize outreach and engagement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop innovative outreach strategies, ensuring diverse and high-quality participation.
  • Monitor partner engagement levels and identify opportunities to deepen relationships through strategic convenings.

3. Communications & Content Development

  • Lead the preparation of compelling talking points, presentations, and supporting materials for events to strengthen relationships and showcase UNICEF Innocenti’s work.
  • Create engaging event briefs, invitations, agendas, and follow-up communications.
  • Curate content that is relevant, engaging, and motivating, ensuring all materials align with UNICEF’s brand and messaging standards.
  • Ensure creative and visual elements are impactful and contribute to the overall success of each event.

4. Partnership Development & Stewardship

  • Support the nurturing and development of strategic partnerships through impactful convening moments and follow-up activities.
  • Identify and explore speaking engagements, panel participation, and other opportunities for UNICEF Innocenti staff to showcase their expertise.
  • Assist the partnerships team in identifying new partnership opportunities aligned with UNICEF Innocenti’s research agenda.

Supervision and Reporting

The consultant will work directly under the supervision of the Director of UNICEF Innocenti – Global Office of Research and Foresight. Regular updates, strategic guidance, and performance feedback will be provided to ensure alignment with organizational goals.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Educational Background:
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in International Development, International Relations, Business Management, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field. A Master’s degree is desirable.
  • Professional Experience:
  • At least 10 years of relevant professional work experience, including a minimum of 2 years in an international context.
  • Proven experience in managing high-profile events, conferences, or similar convening activities tailored to private sector audiences.
  • Demonstrated success in managing high-value partnerships with corporations, foundations, philanthropists, or governments.
  • Strong understanding of fundraising principles, philanthropy, CSR, and international development issues.
  • Experience in managing event budgets, coordinating with external suppliers, and delivering high-quality organizational outcomes.
  • Proven ability to develop compelling communication products and content for high-level audiences.
  • Additional Skills & Knowledge:
  • Project management qualifications are highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of the UN system and its operational context is a plus.
  • Experience working in developing countries or within emergency contexts is an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required; knowledge of an additional UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is desirable.
