Position Overview

As the organization’s Development Consultant, the successful candidate will assume a critical leadership role in designing, implementing, and managing the organization’s fundraising and resource development strategies. This position is integral to ensuring the CLT Center has the necessary financial resources to sustain its operational activities, expand its programs, and deepen its impact on communities globally.

The consultant will work closely with the Executive Director, who provides overall strategic oversight, as well as the Director of Communications and other key project consultants. Additionally, active engagement with board members, particularly those involved in fundraising efforts, will be essential. The role requires a proactive, strategic thinker with proven experience in nonprofit development, excellent communication skills, and a genuine commitment to advancing community-led land stewardship initiatives.

Responsibilities and Key Activities

The primary responsibilities of the Development Consultant include:

  • Fundraising Strategy Development: Craft comprehensive, innovative fundraising plans aligned with the CLT Center’s mission, goals, and operational needs. This includes identifying potential funding sources, setting realistic targets, and outlining actionable steps to achieve them.
  • Donor Cultivation and Relationship Management: Build and nurture relationships with a diverse range of donors, including philanthropic foundations, government agencies, institutional partners, and individual contributors. Develop tailored engagement strategies to foster long-term support.
  • Proposal Writing and Grant Management: Prepare compelling grant proposals, funding applications, and reports to secure financial support. Ensure timely submission of proposals and compliance with donor requirements.
  • Campaign Planning and Execution: Coordinate and lead fundraising campaigns, special initiatives, and events (virtual or in-person) to raise awareness and resources for the organization’s work.
  • Tracking and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of donor interactions, funding commitments, and campaign progress. Provide regular updates and reports to the Executive Director and board members, demonstrating the impact of fundraising efforts.
  • Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to align fundraising activities with organizational priorities. Support the development of marketing and communication materials to showcase the CLT Center’s work and impact.
  • Capacity Building: Offer guidance and training to staff and volunteers involved in fundraising activities, ensuring a cohesive and effective approach to resource development.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Proven Fundraising Expertise: Demonstrated success in developing and executing fundraising strategies within nonprofit or social enterprise settings, preferably with experience in international development, housing, or land rights sectors.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, capable of crafting compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
  • Relationship-Building Abilities: Skilled in cultivating and maintaining relationships with donors, partners, and stakeholders at various levels.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop innovative fundraising approaches, set achievable targets, and adapt strategies based on organizational needs and external trends.
  • Self-Motivation and Independence: Comfortable working remotely, managing time effectively, and taking initiative to meet deadlines and objectives.
  • Cultural Competence: Sensitivity to diverse cultural contexts and ability to work with international partners.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with donor management software, online fundraising platforms, and Microsoft Office suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with community-led development models, land trusts, or affordable housing initiatives.
  • Knowledge of global philanthropy trends and funding landscapes.
  • Multilingual abilities are a plus, especially in languages relevant to the organization’s focus regions.
