The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) is offering an internship opportunity for an Administrative & Communication Associate within the Child Protection Section at their office in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. This internship provides a valuable platform for students and recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in supporting child protection initiatives in one of the world’s most diverse and challenging environments.

This internship position involves supporting the Child Protection Section through a range of administrative and communication tasks. Interns will assist with organizing events, managing correspondence, coordinating logistics for capacity-building activities and conferences, and providing travel support to staff. They will help maintain office filing systems, prepare meeting agendas and minutes, and facilitate effective communication within the team and with external partners. Additionally, interns will support procurement and inventory management of office supplies and equipment to ensure smooth operational functioning.
The role offers an opportunity to develop skills in event coordination, office administration, travel arrangements, and inter-agency communication, all within the context of child protection work. Interns will gain insights into UNICEF’s operations in Papua New Guinea, contributing directly to programs that protect vulnerable children and promote their well-being.
Benefits for the Intern:
Interns will receive approximately 70% of the net monthly salary of a GS level 3, step 1 position, providing a modest financial recognition for their contributions.
Minimum Requirements:
Candidates must currently be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program, with at least two years of full-time study completed towards an undergraduate degree or be pursuing a graduate degree (such as a Master’s or PhD). Recent graduates, up to two years after completing their degree, are also eligible. Applicants must submit a verification letter from their university, recent academic transcripts demonstrating strong academic performance, a copy of their ID, and a signed recommendation letter from an academic or professional reference.
Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, or be a recent graduate.
- Proficiency in English.
- Demonstrated strong academic performance, supported by recent university records or a professional reference.
- Not have immediate relatives working at UNICEF or in a position of authority within the organization.
- Comply with UNICEF’s Child Safeguarding Standards and personnel policies.
