UNFCCC is Hiring for a Staff Assistant Position: Apply by June 1, 2025

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is currently accepting applications for a staff position based in Bonn, Germany. The deadline for submission is 1 June 2025 at 23:59 hours Central European Time (CET). The vacancy is publicly announced under the reference number VA 25/020/CA, with an expected start date as soon as possible. The initial appointment duration is two years, with the possibility of extension, depending on performance and organizational needs.
This position is part of UNFCCC’s efforts to support global climate action, working within the Secretariat to facilitate the organization’s activities related to the Convention, Kyoto Protocol, and Paris Agreement. The role is located in the Front Office of the Director of the Conference Affairs Division, which is responsible for providing optimal conference services for the sessions of the governing and subsidiary bodies, as well as organizing workshops and other related events.
The incumbent will be responsible for providing comprehensive administrative and organizational support to the Director. This includes managing calendars, arranging meetings, coordinating communication flows within and outside the division, and serving as the main point of contact for information relevant to the division’s work program. The staff member will also assist in preparing reports, speeches, presentations, and official documents, ensuring adherence to UNFCCC editorial standards.
Key responsibilities include maintaining and updating databases and websites, compiling background material for reports and briefs, proofreading documents, and managing correspondence. The staff assistant will also coordinate internal and external communications, liaise with senior management and stakeholders, and support logistical arrangements for meetings and conferences, including the Conference of the Parties and subsidiary body sessions.
The role requires a highly organized individual capable of multi-tasking and working effectively in a fast-paced, international environment. The incumbent must demonstrate accountability, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build collaborative relationships within diverse teams. They should be proficient in Microsoft Office applications and familiar with SharePoint, with additional skills in document preparation and management.
Qualifications:
- Completed secondary education (high school). Formal secretarial or administrative training is an asset.
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience in office support functions; or three (3) years with a first-level university degree or equivalent, preferably within an international organization.
- Proficiency in English (both oral and written) is mandatory.
- Working knowledge of German is an advantage, as is familiarity with another UN official language.
The selection process may include an assessment exercise and an interview to evaluate candidates’ skills and suitability for the role.
