Educational & Experience Requirements

  • Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree (current enrollment in postgraduate programs, final year undergraduate, or recent graduate within one year of graduation).
  • Languages: Proficiency in English (required and desired).
  • Work Experience: No prior professional experience required, though previous internships or work related to energy, environment, sustainability, or related fields are advantageous.
  • Skills: Strong research, data analysis, report writing, and communication skills. Familiarity with data management and computer applications is a plus.

Focus of the Energy & Environment Unit

The Energy and Environment Unit is one of five key units within the UNDP Zambia office. It works closely with the Government and local stakeholders to advance Zambia’s Vision 2030, SDGs, and the 8th National Development Plan (NDP). The Unit’s core focus areas include:

  • Promoting renewable energy access
  • Supporting energy transition initiatives
  • Climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies

Interns will contribute to the implementation of key projects such as the Community Recovery and Resilience Facility and the Just Transition Projects. They will report directly to the Programme Analyst and work closely with the Programme Specialist, participating in various activities and providing support across project tasks.


Key Responsibilities and Activities

Under the supervision of the Programme Analyst and in collaboration with the Programme Specialist, interns will perform the following tasks:

  • Support Project Implementation: Assist with activities across the energy and environment portfolio, including project coordination, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Research & Analysis: Conduct comprehensive literature reviews on themes such as renewable energy, climate change, natural resource management, and disaster risk reduction.
  • Data Management: Analyze, synthesize, and interpret data, research findings, and policy documents to inform project decisions and strategies.
  • Reporting: Prepare periodic reports, updates, and summaries on SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), gender equality, governance, and climate change topics.
  • Event Support: Assist in organizing stakeholder meetings, workshops, webinars, training sessions, conferences, and retreats—handling logistics and documentation.
  • Information Dissemination: Gather, compile, and disseminate relevant information for donor reports and stakeholder updates.
  • Documentation & Filing: Maintain digital and physical filing systems adhering to organizational policies.
  • Outreach & Communication: Contribute to outreach activities targeting various partners, promoting awareness of the Unit’s work.
  • Additional Tasks: Support ad hoc activities as assigned, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Unit.

  • Experience in community engagement, environmental communication, or livelihood programs is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively with stakeholders from government, civil society, academia, and private sector.
