The organization works across multiple sectors including development, human rights, humanitarian action, and peace and security to eliminate discrimination and foster equitable societies.

The Peace, Security, and Resilience (PSR) Section within UN Women’s Policy, Programme, and Intergovernmental Division is specifically focused on supporting the integration of gender perspectives in efforts related to peace, security, terrorism, and counter-terrorism, both at the national and international levels. This includes advancing the commitments made under the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda, as articulated in key frameworks such as the Beijing Platform for Action and the Pact for the Future, Action 19.

To effectively execute its mandate, UN Women collaborates with governments, UN entities, civil society, and other stakeholders to mainstream gender considerations into counterterrorism (CT) and Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) initiatives. These efforts are carried out globally and at country levels, emphasizing the importance of communication strategies that support advocacy, awareness-raising, and partnership engagement.
