Organizational Background: Multilateral Diplomacy Programme Unit (MDPU)

The MDPU at UNITAR is at the forefront of designing and delivering world-class diplomatic training. Through orientation briefings, skills workshops, and online courses, MDPU benefits approximately 2,500 diplomats annually at the United Nations Headquarters and other global venues. Its activities extend to developing regional and country-specific training programs in partnership with governments, universities, and international organizations.

In addition, MDPU partners with universities worldwide to offer Master’s Programs in Diplomacy and International Law, targeting government officials, students, and stakeholders involved in international negotiations. Recognizing the importance of effective outreach, MDPU is continuously enhancing its communication strategies to reach diverse audiences worldwide.


Key Responsibilities and Tasks

Under the guidance of the Programme Officer, the trainee will support the Communications Team in a range of activities aimed at strengthening MDPU’s visibility and engagement. These include:

  • Content Creation & Design: Assist in developing engaging social media content, flyers, brochures, and landing pages that promote MDPU’s programs and initiatives, ensuring alignment with UNITAR’s branding guidelines.
  • Website & Digital Media: Update and maintain landing pages and website content; monitor and manage MDPU’s social media platforms, including LinkedIn and other channels.
  • Video and Photo Editing: Edit videos and subtitles for social media or courses using tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Canva, or other editing software; capture photographs and short videos at events.
  • Communication Strategy Support: Develop content drafts, manage editorial calendars, and assist in identifying new outreach opportunities, including student fairs, webinars, and regional events.
  • Email Campaigns & Newsletters: Manage internal and external email campaigns using platforms like Mailjet, ensuring timely and targeted dissemination of information.
  • Research & Outreach: Conduct research on potential promotional opportunities, audience engagement strategies, and innovative outreach methods.
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Track engagement metrics, update social groups like the LinkedIn Alumni Group, and prepare summaries or reports on communication activities.

This dynamic role provides a hands-on experience in crafting compelling narratives, managing digital tools, and supporting a global outreach strategy.
