The Program Assistant (IMC – Anticipatory) position is a locally engaged staff role based at the High Commission of Canada in Tanzania. Key Responsibilities and Duties
Reporting to an officer within the mission, the successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting the effective implementation of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) programs. Their responsibilities will include:
- Processing Applications: Utilizing procedural expertise and exercising judgment to evaluate and process immigration and refugee applications efficiently.
- Guideline Application: Applying a comprehensive knowledge of established policies and guidelines to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Research and Information Gathering: Conducting research to support application processing, verifying information, and ensuring program integrity.
- Work Organization: Demonstrating initiative in organizing tasks, managing resources, and prioritizing workload to meet deadlines.
- Problem-Solving: Addressing and resolving complex issues that may arise during application processing or program support.
- Travel Support: Supporting officers during immigration interview trips within Tanzania and neighboring countries, including logistical arrangements and reporting.
- Client and Stakeholder Engagement: Assisting in liaising with Visa Application Centres, participating in promotional activities, and supporting recruitment efforts.
- Additional Support: Providing other administrative or programmatic support as needed, including verification activities and reporting.
The role also involves travel within Tanzania and neighboring countries, as well as participation in outreach, promotion, and liaison activities to facilitate Canada’s immigration and refugee programs.

- Educational Background:
- A post-secondary degree requiring at least two years of full-time study.

- Language Proficiency:

- Professional Experience:
- A minimum of 12 months recent experience (within the last three years) providing administrative or program support in a relevant setting.

- Local Language Knowledge: Familiarity with languages spoken in Burundi, Comoros, Rwanda, Seychelles, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
- Previous Experience: Working within diplomatic missions, international NGOs, or multilateral organizations.
- Program Experience: In refugee relocation, refugee resettlement, or related programs.
- Social Media Management: Experience managing organizational social media accounts.
Operational and Work Conditions
The role requires the ability to:
- Work effectively under high-pressure environments.
- Occasionally work overtime, including weekends, depending on workload.
- Travel within Tanzania and to neighboring countries as needed.
- Commit to a 37.5-hour work week, with working hours from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Thursday, and 7:30 am to 1:00 pm on Fridays (with breaks).
Conditions of employment include holding valid work authorization and maintaining a security clearance, including criminal background checks, throughout employment.
