Position Overview: Translator (Arabic – English)
Global Rights Compliance is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Translator/Interpreter to fill an exciting remote position supporting our critical documentation efforts. This role is pivotal to GRC’s ability to effectively gather, analyze, and disseminate information in contexts where Arabic is a primary language. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality, accurate, and culturally sensitive written translations and oral interpretation between Arabic and English.
This dynamic position will involve translating a diverse range of materials that are central to GRC’s work. This includes, but is not limited to, sensitive interview transcripts from victims and witnesses, complex legal documents such as court filings and legislative texts, detailed reports on human rights violations, and various other written content essential for investigations, analysis, and advocacy. The ability to maintain accuracy and nuance across these different types of materials is paramount.
Beyond written translation, the Translator/Interpreter will provide crucial simultaneous and consecutive interpretation services. This will be required during a variety of settings, including important meetings with stakeholders, training sessions for partners and staff, and consultations with individuals and communities affected by conflict and human rights abuses. The ability to effectively bridge communication gaps in real-time, ensuring clarity and understanding in sensitive situations, is a key requirement of this role.
Close coordination with the program team is essential for success in this position. The Translator/Interpreter will work collaboratively with investigators, lawyers, and researchers to ensure that translations and interpretations are not only accurate in terms of language but also reflect the intended meaning and context of the original material. This requires a strong understanding of GRC’s work and the specific terminology used in international humanitarian law, international criminal law, and human rights. Consistency in translation and interpretation across all materials is vital for maintaining the integrity of GRC’s documentation and analysis.
In addition to the core translation and interpretation responsibilities, the Translator/Interpreter will also provide assistance with administrative tasks as required. This might include managing translation workflows, organizing documents, and supporting the team with logistical arrangements related to language services. This demonstrates the need for a flexible and proactive individual who is willing to contribute to the overall efficiency of the program team.
