Headed by an elected Director, TSB supports the work of World Telecommunication Standardization Assemblies (WTSA), Study Groups, and Advisory Groups, ensuring that technical standards evolve to meet the demands of a rapidly changing digital landscape.
Within TSB, the Operations and Planning Department (OPD) is responsible for coordinating and planning the sector’s activities. It manages the organization of assemblies, logistical support for meetings, document processing, IT services, and the development of electronic working methods. The department also oversees the production of ITU-T recommendations and publications, collaborating closely with other departments to ensure seamless support for global telecommunication standardization efforts.
About the Role
The Project Consultant will be a key player within the OPD, dedicated to supporting the successful execution of department initiatives. The role involves developing project schedules, managing tracking tools, and preparing comprehensive reports that inform strategic decisions. The consultant’s expertise in frontier technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT), combined with strong analytical and organizational skills, will be vital in enhancing project processes and outcomes.
This is a remote, home-based position with a duration of 6 months, offering flexibility and the opportunity to work from anywhere while contributing to global standards that impact billions of users worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Chief of the Operations and Planning Department, the Project Consultant will:
- Coordinate Projects: Develop and maintain detailed schedules for OPD initiatives, manage project tracking tools, and contribute to the preparation of reports summarizing activities and outcomes.
- Analyze Data: Extract, evaluate, and consolidate data from in-house documentation and reports from Member States, with a focus on OPD-specific information.
- Performance Reporting: Ensure that project reports are accurate, comprehensive, and aligned with OPD’s strategic goals.
- Support Collaboration: Engage with project team members and stakeholders to provide technical and management support, particularly concerning financial and implementation aspects of OPD projects.
- Ensure Timely Delivery: Monitor project deadlines, identify potential delays, and report issues to the project manager to facilitate timely interventions.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Gather and analyze important data requirements from internal and external sources, proposing solutions that meet stakeholder needs and support strategic decision-making.
Deliverables
The consultant will be expected to produce:
- Draft reports and presentations that demonstrate a solid understanding of technical structures and algorithms.
- An insightful project management tool to assist project owners in resource allocation, decision-making, and strategic planning.
- Regular updates on project progress, including potential risks or delays.
- Data analysis reports that address stakeholder needs and propose actionable solutions.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
Candidates should possess:
- Knowledge of Frontier Technologies: Familiarity with AI, Blockchain, and IoT.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software/tools.
- Analytical and Organizational Skills: Strong ability to analyze complex data, organize information efficiently, and communicate findings effectively.
- Communication Skills: Ability to translate technical data into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences.
- Educational Background: A university degree in project management, information technology, AI, data analytics, international relations, or related fields.
- Experience: At least six months of relevant professional experience in project management or SSA-related roles.
- Languages: Fluency in English (advanced level); knowledge of other Union languages such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish is advantageous.
Compensation
Remuneration will be between USD 185 and USD 250 per day, depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
