The Digital Transformation Internship Opportunity
This internship, aligned with the UNDP Digital Strategy 2022-2025, is designed to support the organization’s efforts to embed digital innovation into development projects, foster inclusive digital ecosystems, and strengthen the capacity of governments and partners to harness digital tools effectively.
Interns will work remotely, collaborating with teams across various units to support initiatives in digital ecosystems, AI readiness, digital policy development, and digital capacity building, among others. The internship duration is three months, with flexible start dates based on organizational needs and applicant availability. Applications are open until September 1, 2025, and successful candidates will be notified between March and the end of 2025.
Key Areas of Support
Interns will have the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of activities, including:
1. Digital Ecosystems and Inclusion:
- Support the development of local, rights-based digital ecosystems that promote inclusion and digital rights.
- Assist in research and content review on topics like digital connectivity, ethical AI, and digital public goods.
- Contribute to knowledge management by collecting and sharing innovative digital ideas and best practices organization-wide.
- Develop advocacy content for social media, blogs, and briefing notes to raise awareness on digital inclusion issues.
2. Country Office Support & Capacity Building:
- Support assessments of countries’ digital and AI readiness.
- Assist in developing national data strategies, governance frameworks, and AI policies.
- Help make digital, data, and AI resources more accessible to governments.
- Contribute to digital capacity-building initiatives, including multilingual AI tools, green computing, and AI trust and safety.
3. Digital Strategy Development & Implementation:
- Conduct research on emerging digital topics to support UNDP’s thought leadership.
- Support the maintenance and content management of UNDP’s digital guides and resources.
- Assist in tracking and analyzing progress on digital strategy initiatives, providing recommendations for improvement.
- Support strategic communications efforts, including drafting speeches, briefs, and outreach materials.
4. Business Operations & Strategic Engagement:
- Support operational tasks such as organizing meetings, workshops, and travel.
- Contribute to partnership development by researching potential collaborators, including tech firms and NGOs.
- Help produce compelling digital content to promote UNDP’s initiatives and partnerships.
5. Digital Product Development & Innovation:
- Support the design and testing of digital products like apps, platforms, and AI tools.
- Assist with project proposals, user testing, and the implementation of digital solutions in various contexts.
Qualifications & Skills
Candidates should be enrolled in or recently graduated from a university program related to digital technology, development studies, economics, or a related field. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Strong interest or experience in digital transformation, AI, digital policy, or related areas.
- Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
- Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus.
- Proficiency in digital tools, data management, and social media content creation.
Additional Information
Selected interns will be required to submit supporting documents, including a letter of enrollment or graduation, academic transcripts, a copy of their passport, and health documentation if applicable. The internship is open to applicants worldwide, with the understanding that the start date is flexible and based on organizational and individual needs.
