About the Role
In line with its ambitious expansion, Food for Education is looking to hire a Senior Associate – Internal Communications based in Nairobi. Reporting directly to the Communications Manager, this individual will be instrumental in shaping and maintaining a cohesive, motivated, and informed organizational culture. They will oversee daily internal communications, foster employee engagement, and ensure that the organization’s values and strategic goals are effectively communicated across all levels.
Position Summary
The Senior Associate of Internal Communications will serve as the heartbeat of F4E’s internal messaging, ensuring clarity, consistency, and connection among staff members. From managing communication channels like email and Slack to supporting internal campaigns and events, this role is central to strengthening organizational cohesion and reinforcing F4E’s mission and values. This individual will work closely with the People Team and leadership to promote a positive workplace culture, facilitate change management, and amplify staff voices.
Core Responsibilities
- Internal Communications Strategy & Execution: Develop and execute comprehensive communication plans that support F4E’s mission, foster team cohesion, and promote organizational values. Manage content calendars and oversee the timely delivery of updates, memos, newsletters, leadership announcements, and organizational news.
- Channel Management & Optimization: Serve as the internal communications expert on platforms such as Slack, organizing channels, managing content, and creating best practices for engagement. Regularly analyze channel activity and propose innovative ways to enhance communication effectiveness.
- Content Creation & Messaging: Draft engaging internal content, including summaries like “Week in Review,” “Staff Spotlight,” or “5 Things to Know.” Support the broader communications team by preparing speeches, FAQs, and team briefings, ensuring messaging is accessible and aligned with organizational priorities.
- Crisis & Issue Communication: Collaborate on internal rapid response strategies during crises, ensuring clear, timely, and coordinated communication across the organization. Maintain protocols for escalation and keep staff well-informed during evolving situations.
- Media Monitoring & Insights: Track media coverage and partner updates relevant to F4E. Produce internal digests that keep staff informed, inspired, and aligned with external developments and organizational impact stories.
- Culture & Engagement Initiatives: Support internal campaigns that reinforce F4E’s mission, values, and impact. Assist in coordinating town halls, feedback sessions, and other events that promote transparency and staff engagement. Gather feedback regularly and adapt communication approaches accordingly.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- At least five years of experience in internal communications, employee engagement, or related fields with a strong focus on internal messaging.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to translate complex ideas into clear, engaging content.
- Proven expertise in managing Slack as a primary internal communication platform, including knowledge of best practices, automations, and formatting.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects seamlessly.
- Experience with content creation tools such as Google Docs, Canva, or Mailchimp.
- A highly collaborative, proactive team player with emotional intelligence and adaptability.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, values-driven environment with a global vision rooted in local impact.
