The Role: Conservation Intern

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, coordinating, and documenting stakeholder meetings, workshops, and training sessions to foster community participation.
- Support data collection and quality control using platforms like Kobo Collect, and facilitate communication with local farmers via SMS.
- Participate in water quality and quantity assessments to monitor the health of watersheds.
- Identify and report on priority value chains linked to water funds in Eldoret-Iten and River Yala regions.
- Contribute to project outreach efforts through social media, newsletters, and other communication channels.
- Draft content for public dissemination and support marketing activities.
- Assist in organizing field activities, including farm planning and water conservation infrastructure development.
- Help integrate new technologies and practices into ongoing conservation projects.
- Complete TNC’s Water Fund feasibility course to enhance technical understanding and certification.
Qualifications and Skills
Candidates should have recently graduated within the past two years with a degree in Natural Resource Management, Agriculture, Communication, Forestry, Community Development, Information Technology, International Relations, or related fields. Practical experience or training in communication tools, social media management, value chain analysis, and mapping software like Google Earth is advantageous. Fluency in Swahili is a must, and familiarity with community-based conservation approaches and local governance structures will be highly valued.
Preferred Attributes
Residency or close proximity to counties such as Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, or Nandi is preferred, given the field-based nature of the work. Additional skills in GIS, data visualization, and stakeholder engagement will strengthen candidacy.
