Young Learner Assistant wanted at British Council (€12.51 Gross Per Hour)

Role Purpose

As a Young Learner Assistant, your primary responsibility will be to provide exceptional support to all staff members working with young learners aged between 3 to 17 years at the British Council Teaching Centre. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of young learners on British Council premises and at partner schools. It is essential that you help to uphold the Child Protection systems and procedures set forth by the British Council, ensuring that they are respected by both staff and customers alike.

Main Accountabilities

In your role, you will focus on supporting the British Council Child Protection Strategy through the following accountabilities:

Supervision of Young Learners

    • Ensure proper supervision of young learners in both British Council and partner school premises before, during, and after classes, as well as during break times, transitions between classes, and lunch periods.

    Maintenance of e-Registers

      • Skillfully create and maintain electronic registers and all related documentation for both holiday and academic year classes to ensure accurate attendance tracking.

      Coordination with the Class Support Team (CST)

        • Collaborate closely with the CST to facilitate smooth class changes and ensure all students are enrolled in the correct classes and recorded accurately on the registers.

        Communication with Key Personnel

          • Liaise with the Head of Young Learners (YL) and Country Operations Manager to foster an understanding among young learners, parents, and staff regarding British Council Roles and Responsibilities.

          Monitoring Classroom Issues

            • Proactively inform Senior Teachers and Academic Teams about any issues that arise in the classroom setting and provide support for young learners who may be feeling unwell. Additionally, communicate necessary information to the Centre Manager, Duty Officer, and parents as required.

            Administrative Support

              • Assist in setting up and closing down partner schools and perform administrative tasks as needed, with prior approval from Teaching Centre Management.

              Qualifications

              • Essentials:
              • BAC or an equivalent school-leaving certificate.
              • Desirables:
              • First aid training,
              • BAFA (Brevet d’aptitude aux fonctions d’animateur).

              Work Experience

              • Essentials:
              • Experience working with children in either a formal school setting or in an out-of-school environment is mandatory.

              Salary & Benefits

              • Salary: €12.51 gross per hour.

              • Leave: 35 leave days along with 6 privileged days converted into hours, added to the annual hours contract.

              Additional Information

              • Contract Type: This is an indefinite contract position.
              • Work Schedule: The role may require travel between British Council partner schools located in Ile de France. It involves working outside of standard hours, including evenings and Saturdays, as well as during school holidays. A specific schedule will be provided for each centre.
              • Working Days: The position is required on Wednesdays and Saturdays ONLY.
              • Eligibility: Applicants must have the right to work in France. Please note that the British Council is unable to assist non-EU nationals in obtaining a work permit for France.
