Since the launch of our first Digital Strategy in 2019, UNDP has embarked on an ambitious journey to leverage digital technology for development. We are now advancing into the next phase with the Digital Strategy 2022-2025, which envisions a world where digital technology acts as an empowering force for both people and the planet.
The Chief Digital Office (CDO) at UNDP is spearheading this initiative with a mission to integrate digital technologies into development projects, support government partners in building inclusive digital ecosystems, and foster internal organizational transformation.
Note: The start date for the internship is flexible and needs-based. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until August 31, 2025. Successful candidates can expect to receive updates between March 1 and the end of 2025.
Duties and Responsibilities:
We are seeking motivated interns to support our initiatives in the following areas, with options for part-time or full-time work:
Digital Transformation: Inclusive Digital Ecosystems
- Assist in shaping local digital ecosystems to ensure a rights-based, equitable approach to digital development.
- Support the implementation of secure digital and data infrastructure through a collaborative societal transformation approach.
- Conduct research and content review on topics such as digital inclusion, ethical technology, and AI.
- Facilitate knowledge management by sharing thought leadership on digital issues across the organization.
- Collaborate with communication teams to produce advocacy materials such as blogs, talking points, and social media content.
Digital Transformation: Country Office Support & Capacity Building
- Assess countries’ digital and AI readiness and assist in project management for implementation.
- Help Country Offices in developing national data strategies and governance frameworks.
- Enhance accessibility of digital capacity-building resources for governments.
- Support initiatives around AI and Data, such as multilingualism, green computing, and AI trust.
Digital Transformation: UNDP Digital Strategy Development & Implementation
- Contribute to global thought leadership by researching and synthesizing key digital information for senior leadership.
- Assist in managing UNDP’s digital guides webpage.
- Participate in designing and implementing UNDP’s digital capacity footprint.
- Provide administrative support to the Chief Digital Officer and assist in drafting materials for external engagements.
Business Operations
- Help track the progress of operations within the Chief Digital Office, including resourcing plans and project implementation.
- Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, and travel engagements for the operations team.
- Collaborate on best practices to enhance operational efficiency.
- Identify inefficiencies and propose actionable strategies to boost productivity.
Thought Leadership, Engagement, Partnerships, and Strategic Communications
- Research potential partners and opportunities for collaboration with technology firms and NGOs.
- Support communications outreach and the development of partnership materials.
- Engage in global processes and assist in organizing events related to digital transformation.
- Produce content for various communication channels, including social media and internal platforms.
Product Design, Build, and Management
- Assist in designing digital products and tools for UNDP’s sustained impact.
- Collaborate on scoping new digital product proposals and user testing.
- Support the implementation of digital solutions in various countries.
UNDP Transformation: Change Management
- Facilitate Communities of Practice to foster exchange and skill enhancement among teams.
- Track progress on digital transformation initiatives and contribute to internal communications.

Required Skills and Experience:
Candidates must meet one of the following educational criteria:
- Enrollment in a graduate program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
- Enrollment in the final year of an undergraduate degree (minimum bachelor’s level).
- Graduation from a relevant university degree within the past year; if selected, must start the internship within one year of graduation.
Experience or interest in the aforementioned workstreams is highly desirable.

Stipend Information: In accordance with UNDP policies, interns will receive a monthly stipend, which varies by duty location. The stipend will be pro-rated for part-time arrangements. All other internship-related expenses will be the responsibility of the intern.
