Background:

UN Women is the United Nations organization dedicated to promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women globally. Grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, UN Women aims to eliminate discrimination against women and girls and promote equal opportunities and rights for all genders, both as partners in development and as beneficiaries of human rights, humanitarian action, and peace and security initiatives.

The Strategic Planning Unit (SPU), which operates within the Strategy, Planning, Resources and Effectiveness Division (SPRED), is responsible for supporting UN Women and its partners in achieving high-quality development outcomes. SPU utilizes an integrated approach that connects strategic planning and Results-Based Management (RBM) to innovative methodologies for effective program delivery. Through RBM, all stakeholders are encouraged to ensure their processes, products, and services contribute positively toward achieving significant results—outputs, outcomes, and overarching impacts—and use this data for informed decision-making.

The SPU serves as a key custodian of RBM and is also integral to strategic planning and results-based reporting for UN Women both at the corporate and the field level. By ensuring quality assurance in planning and reporting, SPU fosters collaboration, promotes innovative solutions, and encourages a culture of accountability and data-driven decision-making to enhance UN Women’s effectiveness in programming. Additionally, SPU leads inter-agency planning initiatives and acts as the business owner for UN Women’s Results Management Systems (RMS), which supports the processes of strategic planning, monitoring, and reporting of outcomes, along with effective data aggregation and communication with stakeholders.
