Project Overview
The Development Intern will join the Digital Communications Team, working collaboratively within the communications group to maintain and elevate UNDP’s web presence globally. Under the guidance of the Digital Production Specialist, the intern will contribute significantly to the digital realm, ensuring that all UNDP branded products uphold a consistent tone and visual representation.
Core Responsibilities
Depending on the intern’s skill set and professional interests, responsibilities may include the following areas:
- Backend Development:
- Work with PHP and Drupal to develop specific features.
- Perform third-party integrations for Drupal, bug fixes, and implementation of user feedback.
- Engage in Drupal theming and automated test development.
- DevOps/System Operations:
- Support the maintenance and improvement of UNDP’s CI/CD pipelines.
- Develop and integrate external services to enhance existing systems.
- Create automated performance monitoring tools and early warning systems for hacking attempts.
Skills and Competencies
The ideal candidate should possess the following skills and qualities:
- Strong understanding and practical experience with PHP and the Drupal framework, including modules, hooks, and theming.
- Proficiency in frontend development languages like JavaScript, CSS/SASS, and HTML.
- Familiarity with web development tools such as Git and VS Code, as well as basic shell scripting.
- Excellent organizational skills and an ability to work autonomously.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet one of the following educational requirements:
- Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
- Be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
- Have graduated with a university degree corresponding to the above and, if selected, must begin the internship within one year of graduation.
