The Sustainable Development Cluster (SDC) focuses on assisting partners with varied needs in peacebuilding, humanitarian efforts, and major development initiatives. This cluster integrates diverse portfolios—Grants Management Services, UN Technology Support Services, and Development and Special Initiatives—for seamless service delivery in up to 125 countries.
Purpose and Scope of Assignment
UNOPS is seeking a dynamic Communications Senior Officer – Digital and Content to play a key role in the Communications and Results Reporting Section (CRRS) at DCO Headquarters in New York. This position will support the development, maintenance, and enhancement of digital communication platforms and online communities, significantly elevating DCO’s digital presence and engagement.
In this role, the officer will collaborate closely with both external stakeholders and UN Country Teams (UNCTs), helping to ensure the effective integration of digital tools that enhance transparency and accountability. Responsibilities will include maintaining DCO-backed digital platforms, contributing to content creation, and optimizing digital strategies to engage diverse audiences.
Functional Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities Include:
Maintenance and Improvement of Digital Platforms:
- Coordinate with external and UN stakeholders to ensure that DCO-backed Drupal websites are effectively integrated with proprietary data systems, including UN INFO and IMS.
- Enhance and maintain interactive transparency and accountability data portals, responsible for content updates, project scope changes, risk assessment, and solutions management.
- Draft and maintain governance documents related to DCO-backed digital platforms, focusing on SEO, accessibility, and multilingualism.
Project Management and Content Creation:
- Serve as the technical focal point for digital design and development, managing schedules and orchestrating knowledge-sharing activities.
- Produce engaging text and multimedia products, including web stories, blogs, press materials, data visualizations, and social media posts aligned with broader DCO objectives.
- Develop and oversee the website information architecture, content production plans, and coordinate review processes with DCO partners globally.
- Ensure quality assurance through translation and editorial processes for interactive reports, audio, and video products.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Regularly assess digital platforms’ performance, tracking KPIs and analytics data to inform strategic decisions.
- Monitor public opinion, current events, and information needs to adjust content strategy effectively, maximizing impact.
- Contribute to resources for monitoring and evaluating DCO platforms and content performance, facilitating transparent planning and collaboration.
Education/Experience/Language Requirements

Education:
- An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communications, information technology, or a related field, plus two years of relevant experience; or
- A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) with four years of relevant experience in similar domains.
Work Experience:
- Required:
- A background in public information, journalism, computer science, digital marketing, or related areas is essential.
- Proven experience in creating multimedia content for websites and social media channels aimed at fostering multilateral collaboration.
- Solid experience working with Drupal or comparable content management systems for complex, multilingual websites.
- Desired:
- Experience in creating data visualizations for web and social media platforms using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Adobe Creative Suite.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies, such as Agile, PMP, PRINCE2, or Scrum.
- Experience working within the UN system or other similar international organizations is preferred.
Language:
- Fluency in English is mandatory (reading, writing, speaking).
- Knowledge of other UN official languages is a valuable advantage.
