Contract Type: Internship
Closing Date: December 31, 2024, 05:00 PM (America/New_York)

The Position:
UNFPA offers an invaluable opportunity for dedicated individuals to join its internship program, a chance to contribute to the mission of the United Nations Population Fund. This internship is particularly focused on advancing the vital work of ensuring that every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person’s potential is fulfilled. Interns will gain firsthand experience in the organization’s efforts to realize strategic goals set forth in the UNFPA Strategic Plan (2022-2025), which emphasizes three transformative results:
- Ending Preventable Maternal Deaths: Working towards reducing maternal mortality rates by improving healthcare access and ensuring safe childbirth practices.
- Ending Unmet Need for Family Planning: Addressing the disparities in access to reproductive health services, providing reliable information on family planning options, and empowering individuals to make informed choices.
- Ending Gender-Based Violence and Harmful Practices: Advocating for gender equality and the protection of women’s rights, while combating practices that harm individuals and communities.
UNFPA’s strategic plan underscores the urgency of these results as the organization aims to accelerate progress toward the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) goals and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the crucial Decade of Action leading to 2030. The internship role will allow individuals to engage with initiatives that promote recovery from the setbacks caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, with an emphasis on restoring and enhancing women’s and girls’ access to crucial sexual and reproductive health services and reproductive rights.
