Introduction

The Latin America & the Caribbean Climate Fellowship (2025) is a transformative program designed to empower innovative entrepreneurs dedicated to tackling one of the most pressing issues of our time: climate change. Focusing specifically on the diverse contexts of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), this fellowship supports founders who are developing solutions for effective climate mitigation, adaptation, and building resilience in their communities.

Participants in this fellowship will receive tailored expert training, access to crucial resources, and an opportunity to engage in intensive residency programs that will enhance their ventures while fostering meaningful collaborations with peers and experts in the field.


Target Sectors

The fellowship encourages solutions across a variety of sectors, including, but not limited to:

  • Renewable Energy Generation and Storage: Innovations that harness solar, wind, hydro, and other renewable resources to provide sustainable energy alternatives.
  • Green Building Technologies: Development of construction methods and materials that reduce environmental impact and improve energy efficiency in buildings.
  • Climate Data and Analytics: Tools and platforms that provide data-driven insights for climate-related decision-making and action.
  • Climate-Smart Agriculture and Food Systems: Strategies that optimize food production while minimizing environmental footprints, addressing both food security and ecosystem health.
  • WaterTech: Technologies aimed at improving water management, purification, and conservation in the face of changing climate conditions.
  • Blue Economy: Solutions that promote sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods, and jobs while preserving the health of ocean ecosystems.

Program Structure

The fellowship will host a cohort of up to 10 ventures founded by entrepreneurs from the LAC region. Each venture will receive comprehensive training using Halcyon’s renowned methodologies, which encompass:

  • Product-Market Fit: Understanding how to align their solutions with market needs effectively.
  • Investment Readiness: Preparing ventures to attract and secure funding.
  • Leadership Development: Cultivating essential leadership skills for entrepreneurial success.

The program will be delivered through the following components:

  • One Virtual Kickoff Meeting: An introductory session to set the stage for the program and provide an overview to the fellows.
  • One Week Residency in Mexico City, Mexico: An immersive experience providing access to local experts, potential collaborators, and resources.
  • Monthly Virtual Meetings: Ongoing support and training sessions to ensure fellows are continually developing and refining their ventures.
  • One Week Residency in Colombia: An opportunity for hands-on learning and networking in a different cultural and economic context.

Eligibility Criteria

The fellowship seeks applications from for-profit startups that meet the following criteria:

  • Location: Must operate in or serve the Latin America and the Caribbean region.
  • Stage: Should have developed a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) with significant growth potential and commit to working on the venture full-time.
  • Team Composition:
  • Ventures can apply with up to one co-founder.
  • The applicant must hold the position of CEO or be the primary decision-maker.
  • Proficiency in English is required as programming will be delivered in English.
  • Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 21 years old by the program start date.
  • Engagement: Full participation in all activities and programming sessions is mandatory.
  • Impact Focus: Ventures should align with one or more of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Selection Criteria

Halcyon evaluates each application based on the following key dimensions:

  1. Impact: Assessing the potential for meaningful positive change on both society and the environment if the solution is scaled.
  2. Scalability: Evaluating whether the venture has the capability to reach a broad user base (hundreds of thousands to millions) within a 5-10 year timeframe.
  3. Innovation: Considering the uniqueness and originality of the proposed solution in addressing climate challenges specific to their context.
  4. Talent: Reviewing the qualifications and competencies of the founding team to ensure they are well-equipped to address the identified challenges.
