About the Office of the Ombudsman

The Office of the Ombudsman for United Nations Funds and Programmes provides an independent, confidential, and neutral dispute resolution resource for staff members and related personnel. The Office operates as an independent pillar of the integrated Office of the United Nations Ombudsman and Mediation Services (UNOMS).

Consultancy Opportunity

We are seeking a Conflict Resolution Consultant to enhance the operational capacity of our ombudsman services. The successful candidate will support the Office by providing conflict management services, facilitating informal resolutions, and maintaining neutrality and impartiality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide conflict management services to staff members and non-staff personnel
  • Facilitate informal resolution of workplace conflicts
  • Develop and deliver presentations to raise awareness about informal conflict resolution
  • Travel to field offices as required
  • Perform other duties to support the Office

Experience and Qualifications

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in alternative dispute resolution, human resources management, law, humanities, social sciences, or related area
  • Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible experience in conflict prevention and management
  • Training in providing Ombudsman services is required
  • Work experience in an ombudsman office is required
  • Fluency in English and either French or Spanish is required

Additional Requirements

  • Previous experience with the UN system is a strong asset
  • Working knowledge of another UN language would be an asset
  • Ability to work in time zones suitable for Africa and Asia, with a home base in Europe ideal
