ABOUT ETHEKWINI

The eThekwini Metropolitan area is located on the east coast of South Africa in the Province of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and is the third largest metropolitan municipality in the country following Johannesburg and Cape Town.

It spans an area of approximately 2 555km2 and shares boundaries with three districts; Ugu to the south, iLembe to the North as well as uMgungundlovu to the west. It is accessible via N2, N3 and King Shaka International Airport.

The metro has 3.9 million people, accounting for 34.7% of the total population of the KZN Province. eThekwini is the economic powerhouse of KZN with a provincial GDP contribution of 59.88% or R468 billion.

The metro is characterised by a diversified economy, with strengths ranging from manufacturing, logistics, property and finance to tourism, leisure, sports as well as arts and culture.

By 2030 eThekwini Municipality will enjoy the reputation of being Africa’s most caring and liveable City, where all citizens live in harmony.

BURSARY STUDY FIELDS AVAILABLE

eThekwini Municipality is offering excellent bursary opportunities to South African citizens interested in a rewarding career, in:

  • i)    Electrical Engineering
  • ii)    Mechanical Engineering
  • iii)    Civil Engineering
  • iv)    Chemical Engineering
  • v)    Medical Officers (General and Occupational Health)
  • vi)    Electronic Engineering
  • vii)    Architects
  • viii)    Quantity Surveyor
  • ix)    Valuer

WHAT THE BURSARY COVERS

The benefits of the bursary include:

  • accommodation fees,
  • tuition and examination fees,
  • book allowance and
  • a once-off computer allowance in the second year of study (subject to compliance with the agreement).

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that
failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • South African citizen;
  • Completed Matric OR currently in Matric;
  • Strong academic record;

  • Studying or plan to study full-time towards an undergraduate qualification in one of the
  • above-mentioned fields of study;
  • Studying or planning to study at a SAQA-recognised South African public tertiary institution.
  • Acceptance to study for the above qualifications.

Applicants will be required to undergo an assessment as part of the process for consideration.

HOW TO APPLY

Preference will be given to applicants who have passed at least their first year of studies at a SAQA recognised public institution, and applicants must include their full academic record.

Applications from students who are only due to start their studies in 2024 must include proof of their acceptance from a SAQA-recognised South African public university and matric results.
